Khuutra is 100% right as Kylie posted again if you two didn't notice

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=3999232

The man thinks talking to people face to face while playing your 3DS' together isn't using the device to be social (IE scope of his argument) but believes it has to have text and voice messages like Wii, PS3, and 360 to be a social device, which makes no logcial sense (btw he only listed PS3 and 360 purposely leaving out the Wii even though it sends text, voice, and pictures)

And this is all before the big major update comes... cause... yeah... why would it have all these features like PS3 and 360 have if they weren't going to enable you to message them?  They are it will just be apart of the major update I can assure you of that.

Apparently being social with a device isn't being social in person, for whatever reason, local play is what sold the Wii, it's what sells Pokemon to this day, and what attracts people to some of the biggest FPS francises ever... cause what do you know most gamers aren't people that only socialize online... but they still want their devices to be a medium of socialization in person...

If the update changes things doesn't factor into how the device is NOW.  If it implements a messaging system I would change my stance since that would allow for more social options, though still limited depending on who you can message.

...and a family sitting down to play Wii Sports together is the family being social and playing the Wii, the Wii wasn't used to get the family together, the family did it.   Try and see the difference...

Sorry, i may not be allowed to contradict, but how the hell????

Wii Sports and the whole Wii is and was always market as "family friendly". Just look at the spots for Wii Sports etc.

Man, i don't see the difference.

The family now has a activity (Wii Sports) that everybody, including grandma, little Charly, his little sister Kyli and her mom, enjoys. So the Wii was used to get the family together, or not?

I'd suggest not feeding him, that's the whole reason I didn't quote him as in both situations of playing online or together in person the medium of socialization is whatever game system you're playing.

so·cial·ize   (ssh-lz)

v. so·cial·izedso·cial·iz·ingso·cial·iz·es
v.tr.
1. To place under government or group ownership or control.
2. To make fit for companionship with others; make sociable.
3. To convert or adapt to the needs of society.
v.intr.
To take part in social activities.

Yes socializing (shockingly enough) is taking part in social activities, it's not limited to a ethernet cable being between the persons involved.  And if they're using the Wii to socialize it's no different than using telephones, internet, board games, playing cards, or parties.  They're all means to socialization for people to come together and socialize, cause otherwise they might not, and to use socialization in any other way is just not using it by it's definition, IE how you can so easily contradict yourself when you stop using the word properly.

@maxwellGt2000 yeah you need to play MGS3 like yesterday, best in the series IMHO. From the little footage ive seen it looks like it will be made in the vein of the PSP games, which is smart the 3DS cant handle all that input. MGS3 on PS2 utilized all the buttons and a 3D camera(subsistance edition). I would still say get the PS2 one (Subsistance edition) to play it the way it was meant to play in addition to the 3DS one. I played it way to many times so its a no buy for me

3DS is a very anti-social device.  To me that is a major problem.

I've formed conversational relationships with people I'd never really talked to before because they're on my way home from work.

StreetPass is kind of an amazing social tool all on its own.

That's incredible!!

where are you located in the world? Can you give an example of how one of these random encounters played out? I'd really love to hear other people's stories about things like this. thank you.

It's nothing super fantastic. I live in Toronto, Ontario and live on the subway line. There's a guy who works in a shop on my way home from work - I noticed that I had passed him a couple of times, so on the third day I just went in and struck up a conversation.

Nowadays we talk about video games more or less every day, shooting the breeze while our 3DSes register each other.

I made a new friend, is the point.

If the Wii didn't exist they would play a board game instead, since it is the family doing a group activity.

Horse poop.

You think I play anything except for Mario  Golf with my father? You are mistaken. Having fun games to play  can and does spur families into playing together. Leave your platitudes at the door, they are stinking up the joint.

Uh you know you can control the camera with the touchpad right? the only buttons missing would be L2 and R2 which in situations like these they just put the two buttons you need least in a hectic situation on the touch screen as well, so I'm certain I wouldn't care if I played it on PS2 or 3DS... and the 3DS version is going to look better while being in 3D at the same time, so... it sounds like the best version to me, all the controls, on the go so I can play some while waiting for class, and with better grapics.

@fresb  i think i found my European counterpart. like you i also only had a Genesis and no SNES, sucks dont it??? Thats why im such an advocate of multi-console ownership, this whole loyaltly is retarded and played out, As a gamer your really screwing yourself by supporting just one system. My friends were a little different when Zelda for 64 came out, the excitment was palpable. We all took turns on that one. Same with SNES. Has a GB too so i was able to play the GB Zelda (the name escapes me now).

Does the 3DS give you some kind of audio signal when another system is nearby?

How did you know it was coming from him?

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

@maxwellgt2000 way to early to tell if it will be the best version, all we've seen is a tech demo and control with teh touchpad??? Ugh, i hated doing it in Mario64, i hated doing it in KH 358Days, i just hate touch pad camera control. If there using it for 3DS version im definately going to pass. If you dont mind it more power to you

A little green light on the outside of it lights up. I noticed that I got the same person two days in a row, so I decided to see where they were on my route.

The 3DS has a light that lights up green, you can tell it's said person when you check your 3DS streetpass data and there's a Mii of that guy showing up on the Mii Plaza
