considering WiiFit made the fitness genre a viable one, it is showing lack of understanding of what the term merit means to say it doesn't merit to be there.

you may not like it (if you even tried) but there is a significant market for fitness games and it's there because of wii fit.

And I really, really don't like and have little interest in the fitness genre.

So I'm perfectly okay to dislike it being on this list, just as people will be just fine disliking Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Rock Band and Mario Kart.

ah see you change your words there and the meaning is different. deserving =/= dislike

I have no problem with your latest comment.

I wouldn't call Wii Fit a game either.

Imagine if you played Wii Sports with a real tennis racquet and a real ball and smash it everytime against the TV. That's not a videogame, you're playing Tennis against a wall.

Or a Kinect game where you need to get a real gun and kill your family members and get points for it when the Kinect cam sees how the dead bodies fall to the ground.

Those are real life experiences and not videogames.

obviously you have not tried wii fit ^^

there are yoga exercises, fitness exercises, fitness "games", games....that's the 4 sections.

This one is just like guitar hero, but instead of pressing the correct button, you bend yourself on the correct side ^^.

make the ball fall in the hole, we've all had little games like this as kids (isn't monkey ball based on the same principle?)

Skiing... 4yearly iterations of olympic games would wager that this is a game ^^

All these games (except Wii Play) somehow deserves that spot.

But let's be honest here, we all know WoW trumps all of them.

for all we know all the wow servers could be costing blizz 100 mil a mounth, now that was random number but im sure it cost a ton of money to have 200 servers running 24/7. but your probaly right tho

I obviously do know that a few mini games always make it in this kind of exercise programs. But don't tell me that people buy Wii Fit to play some mini games on the balance board. Even then it would be a mini game collection at most, but not a fitness game.
FIFA 11 still remains a sports game, even though you can create your own character, have stat points for various abilities, can even improve them over time and freely decide his path during the career. Would anyone define it as RPG or sports-RPG ? I think not.
Is GTA a racer ? nope

etc.

and you're missing the point with Guitar Hero. It's a game simply because you're only doing as if you'd play a real guitar, but you're not and even with a real one you couldn't play any of these songs when you follow the game's instructions.

3, 6 and 8... Shame

WOW, you bash the only 3 games there that was remotely innovative and not "insert brand name here" yearly edition. Ok number 8 i guess i could agree on, but most number 8 buyers are probably new buyers.

Looking at the list again, your comment pretty much sums up why the video game industry is about to have its 2nd crash.

Just because a game is innovative doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

3 and 6 dont suck though.

imo,

3 isn't even a video game. No one plays it for fun and if they do then they need to play wii sports resort instead.

6 is only good for the controller it comes with (don't know if it still does), there are way better games that do what it does.

They just aren't very good video games and don't deserve the top spot over MANY other wii games.

alot of people like wii sports resort (how is this not a game?) and mario kart wii is awesome who just wants the game for the cheap wheel? alot of people dont even play with it  and mario kart deserves all of its sales its a good fun game

ummm 6 is wii play. and i never said wii sports resorts is not a game, its a really good game actually. 3 is wii fit.

lmao damn my bad mixed stuff up narly like well yea 6 is well yea wii play. and why isnt wii fit a game?

Because no one plays it for fun, if they did, they should be playing wii sports instead. Games are fun or story. Wii fit has none. Its not really a game.

Well thats a easy arguement to take out. Go to a gym and ask those people if they find working out fun and enjoyable. There are people who work out all thier lives. There are people who end up doing it professionally because it is there hobby. How is it not fun? I dont play Wii Fit, but I do exercise 3 days a week and I enjoy it.

So then its not a video game because its a workout. My point is that people don't go "Lets play wii fit" its more "lets workout with wii fit"

Doesnt make it not fun which was your arguement. So by your arguement it is still a game. Plus, how do you know thats what they say, or even a big amount?

You proved that argument wrong so i brought another argument dervived from yours. Its not a video game because its a workout. I don't know, but like i said, if anyone says that, they should be playing wii sports instead. Or something funner. I am positive that wii fit isn't exactly in the "yeah im gonnna play it for fun" category. Remember this is all my opinion.

Ah yes, the wildly successful guitar hero franchise. Clearly this list is an indication of what you need to be to enjoy long lasting success.

That's making the assumption that it's not a video game if it's not played for fun, though. If you're going to start eliminating stuff because they're not games in the way you consider games, you're going to have some trouble. Are you going to say that Brain Training isn't a game, because it's mental excercise? And how about Chess, or Bridge?

Making definitions based from preferences never really ends well. The easiest way is to just define video games as "software sold that can be played exclusively on video game machines"

Goddamn shame that 2 companies dominated the software list.

As for consoles, one company still in the competition today is responsible for well over 50% of the consoles sold since the Magnavox Odyssey became the first video game console created in 1972.

Sony.

Yes, not Nintendo, Sony with the PS1 and PS2 sold more consoles than Nintendo did with the NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube combined.*

You want to start something major, then start a thread arguing Sony with 2 consoles has done more and sold more for video games than Nintendo ever did. Sure Nintendo may have created the most icons, but would Nintendo have gotten into the video game console industry if they did not have Atari to learn from and emulate?

Now that would be a fun debate to jump into.

*I don't include hand-helds as they are like the little brother or red-headed step-child compared to the console experiece.

You don't know much of the video game industry history, do you?

Want to start the history lesson professor?

You do realize a companies line of handheld consoles have outsold every line of home consoles right? So calling it in any way the red headed step child is just........

You could also say would Sony have ever have entered the industry if not from learning from Nintendo/Sega/etc.

Oh again about the handhelds. The only way that company you talk about has sold half is if you take them out. Which, makes your whole opening line hogwash. Its only a fun debate for you if you take out things to fit what you want it to be. The debate becomes about what a person doesnt accept as reality and not about facts. Thoose debates have been done over and over and are just petty and pointless.

Anyways, both are big companies and have brought games to the masses. Theres something  from both companies that any gamer can respect.

IN no way is it a shame that two companies control this top ten list. It means there games did the job they are meant to do best. Thats helping people have fun. It also opens doors for those people to look at other styles of games. That is exactly what any industry needs to survive and grow. How is that bad? I myself cant stand 6 of the games on that list, but that does  not make them bad for anyone else. Its keeping doors opens and bringing in new people to a hobby I have loved since I was a little kid. In turn. I will get to keep playing the ones I love and have the chance to play new kinds. its a win win.

So playing a video game on your cell phone or a gameboy = same experience as playing it on a console.

Wow, that is a stretch, but then again I never brought up hand-helds. I would proudly say Nintendo has, currently is, and always will DOMINATE the hand-held video game experience.

Happy now? Okay, so how am I wrong in my initial claim that the PS1 and PS2 sold more than the NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube combined?

Hint...It won't take as many paragraphs though it may take some numbers checking.

I don't really like any of the games on that list. Mario Kart Wii would make sense if it wasn't the worst game in the franchise.
