Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why has there only been one 3DS FPS game announced..?

People, stop saying handhelds can't do it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with handheld FPS as a concept. The problem is that the current set of handhelds don't have the proper set of controls FOR a FPS. The 3DS has the best one that's been developed so far, but when the NGP releases, since it will have dual analog, there will be absolutely nothing wrong with the idea of handheld FPS.

Being handheld has absolutely no inherent issues with playing a FPS. The problem is the same one the Dreamcast had, and the PS1 had before Dual Analog/DualShock released - controls.

Gyro control will fuck up glassless 3D because it has too narrow view angle

That's right, I forgot, every 3DS game needs to be 3D.

Because people aren't buying 3DS' to play that bullshit. There will be plenty of them for PSP. If you're looking for that type of gaming experience on the go, that will be the better handheld for you. That Killzone game in the PSP2 video looked really good, and two sticks are better than one.

Don't think are saying handhelds can't do it, but the handheld market doesn't draw the FPS market.

I mean the DS had a handfull of FPS, which were actually quite solid to good in quality but sales weren't there only because most FPS fans are either graphic or multiplayer heavy and unless the 3DS or NGP prove they can match, the FPS market will stick to consoles and PCs.

i dont want to get flamed but i think FPS on handhelds would have a better chance on NGP, i think they're both not great for either, but PSP did have the best selling FPS game. MOH heroes sold over 2 mil and thats not counting DL sales. But time will tell

I think NGP represents a major growth opportunity for FPS on handhelds, but I still doubt we'll ever see them doing anything comparable to what they do on 360 (or even PS3) sales wise.  It'll probably be more similar to how they sell on Wii.

And still, that doesn't mean there's no room for the genre on 3DS either, it's certainly better suited to the genre than either PSP or DS were.

^^^ i agree with everything you just said 100%. I would go so far as to say that NGP has the potential to sell FPSs better than Wii. If a little spinoff MOH game with little advertisment can manage to do 2mil I can only imagine if they actually put effort into one of these.  thats the rub though will they put quality into these 3DS n NGP FPSs games, will they make enough to gather attention. IMHO thats where the FPSon Wii went wrong, not enough FPSs and the ones they did receive were meh at best (FarCry, MOH, RS, Conduit were blah) (CODs and GE are good)

The DS hasn't drawn the FPS market due to the majority of DS owners not belonging to the 'hardcore' demographic. The 3DS though, given the amount of 'hardcore' games available during the launch window, should have a decent 'hardcore' following right from the start...which is why I'm so surprised there's only been one announced so far. If there was an FPS game available in the launch window it'd sell a shitload.

^^^^ has nothing to do with "hardcore" no dev has made a game on the DS or PSP or any handheld FPS that has gotten anywhere close to the quality of the console ones. If there was an FPS available it would suck or be just like the DS ones. and we see how well those sell. At best id be RS1 all over again, id rather them take their time get something respectable out to show that FPSs are viable on the handheld than just let their greed and desire to be the "first" cloud their judgement, we wont benefit from that
