Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why has there only been one 3DS FPS game announced..?

It has a touch screen to use as a mosue so it doesn't need a second analog stick. It's probably because 90% of devs interested in developing a handheld FPS want to go for the safe bet. NGP has 2 analog sticks which, whether or not will be better for FPS control than 1 stick & a touchscreen, is what most FPS fans are used to. It also has PS3-like graphics which again is what most most FPS fans are used to. I'm guessing the sales of Conduit 3DS & this years COD will determine how much FPS attention 3DS gets over the next 2 years.

I also wonder whether the first 3DS metroid game will be a FPS or an Other M like game. Other M with an analog stick for movement instead of a d-pad, the ability to move while in First Person View and a slight increase in frequency of puzzles will probably be a really huge hit on the 3DS, probably even more than a 3D FPS Metroid.

However using stylus touchscreen as mouse brings the problem of not being able to use buttons comfortably.

That's one genre that can tremendously benefit from NGP control scheme - you have 2 analogs, front buttons and d-pad and as a bonus you can use rear touchpad without discrupting controls on the front.

The advantage of the stylus is precision. To be able to switch any gun fast just by clicking it. Throwing grenades can be activated while pressing the left shoulder pad plus a thrusting motion. Also remember the gyro in the new handhelds, that might be used to control the view with increased sensibility.

Gyro control will fuck up glassless 3D because it has too narrow view angle

i hope not to get flamed but i think the 3DS is unpredictable right now for publishers will it be casual or hardcore? launching an FPS along side nintendo software could be a bad idea as we have seen from the wii and DS

I'd say, from the launch window line up, that it'll be a good mixture of both.

I haven't tried an FPS on the DS before but I've heard from feedback on various forums that they work very well with the touchscreen, better than they would with a second stick. You use the touchscreen to move the camera and the left shoulder button to fire. It takes a bit of getting used to but once you do it plays like a dream apparently.

I just find it really odd that there's only been one announced so far.

Because it has the same problems as the PSP:

only one friggin nubstick.

I called it first.

DS FPS's are played using the touch screen, at least the ones I played - and they are the most precise and comfortable non-PC shooters after the Wii/Move. Try it out, you'll LOVE IT.

And yeah, whoever releases one first, will acquire a major advantage for himself.

i tried metroid prime hunter and i thought the controls here horrid...

but i agree with sliver-tiger -- NGP is undoubtedly going to be the shooter handheld just because of the second analog.  developers are faimilur and happy with that set-up...as are customers.

This.

I know the touchscreen acts as mouse, but I hate it, and I don't think it's the best solution to replace the 2nd nubstick. Your complete hand is contributed to the touchscreen. Even when you use a mouse, you have  at least 3 buttons additionally, or with a controller, even the complete right set of buttons.

well N-Space the developer used by Activision to make all their NDS FPSs are aparently developing 3 3DS games so at least one of them will be CoD. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6106425&id=133196759098

Doubt it, I think Treyarch will probably be handling a dual Wii/3DS engine for future CODs.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Eurocom ported Goldeneye to 3DS.  Seems like a good fit imo.

It's a handheld. end/thread.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (kind of a fps) is coming out for the 3DS on europe launch day, and later Saint's Row.

People who want to play FPSs in 3d aren't buying a 3ds for that purpose. Shooter market is currently on X360/PS3/PC, not handhelds.
