the PS3 has been creepong slowly towards being the number 1 console in japan.

it did good in 2009 but got outsold at the end.

it did awesome in 2010 when everybody said after NSMBWii's Holiday push of 2009 that Wii would be King by far.

in 2011 it has been considerably started outselling Wii,most times by 2:1.And Wii's games are having no effect on sales.Last Story did nothing for Wii.PS3 has an FF13-2 coming up and Wii will have Zelda.

overall the trend shows that PS3 sales are climbing and Wii's sales are falling.

Imo Wii has quite a marginal lead, almost double the amount. PS3 won't catch up till the end of this gen at the rate things are going. Handhelds is where it's at this gen.

Wii. Easily. Unless it gets discontinued this Year, that is.

Uh, do you mean for 2011? PS3 is going to begin declining fairly soon on an annual basis in Japan and since its never going to do even 3m in a year it won't catch Wii when Wii still has enough left for 15m lifetime.

So far, PS3 is trending down 10-15% on 2010 in Japan, its just Wii is down much more. Both will need price cuts to come near, match, or exceed 2010 figures.

PS3 ain't getting to Wii's LTD sales, much less its LT sales. On top of that, Wii still has DQX at some point, meaning that Wii will prolly sell more from this point on.

What's with everybody getting hopeful for HD consoles all of a sudden? It's too far in the generation. You simply can't topple Wii, now.

It will be close overall since the PS3 should outlast the Wii by a year or two. I don't know what PS3's sales were like last year at this point but sales have been steady at ~25K for a bunch of weeks now. If this continues with the Wii's presence in the market as it stands then that lead the Wii has should diminish about 480k by the end of the year taking into consideration how Wii sales rise so much during Japanese holidays. Price cuts will play big roles as well but I would think it would benefit PS3's sales more so than Wii's. It would take about 3-4 years for PS3 to overtake but I wouldn't be so sure on either side. If I were a betting man I would vote no but its pretty possible for PS3 to edge out the Wii overall.

I really doubt the PS3 will ever pass the Wii in Japan. Maybe under the worst case scenario for the Wii and best case for the PS3 it might be close though. The worst case scenario for the Wii is about 13 million at absolute rock-bottom minimum, and that's being almost unrealistically pessimistic. The absolute best case scenario I can see for the PS3 is 12-13 million.

Wii should reach at least 14M in Japan LT and PS3 may top 10M LT.
