So... what VGC is telling us, is that X360 sells more than twice more than PS3 and only 200k more software?

Basically: X360 tie ratio these weeks:

Week Software Hardware Tie Ratio
01.22.11 1,357,819 122,298 11.1
01.29.11 1,608,912 140,247 11.47
02.05.11 1,224,431 130,444 9.39
02.12.11 1,240,649 135,447 9.16

And for the PS3:

Week Software Hardware Tie ratio
01.22.11 1,360,478 74,861 18.17
01.29.11
1,342,222 72,129 18.6
02.05.11 1,040,463 67,619 15.39
02.12.11
1,034,564 66,449 15.57

You see, this just... kind of sucks, and really, because last year, for the X360:

Week
Software
Hardware
Tie Ratio
01.23.10 1,133,775 88,276 12.84
01.30.10 1,694,962 118,268 14.33
02.06.10 1,000,861 103,255 9.69
02.13.10 1,413,698 123,539 11.44

And PS3:

Week
Software
Hardware
Tie ratio
01.23.10
900,360 94,795 9.5
01.30.10
1,020,899 96,339 10.6
02.06.10
932,682 91,456 10.2
02.13.10
1,151,904 103,808 11.1

See, either fucked up or overtracked, or something strange is happening, people only buying the console.

PS3 tie ratio is too big... no console can do near 20 games per consoles.

Or PS3 hardware undertracked or PS3 software overtracked.

NPD may tell us today.

Why does 360 keep increasing randomly in Americas?

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is a sequel to an X-Box exclusive title. It was a small jump this week because of that.

Well it was available on the PS2, PC and PSP too.

HD exclusive on 360, and it was one of the first few good HD games out there.

To explain the current sales of 360 and Wii....

Originally Wii was hot in NA cause parents used it as a medium to get the fatties and the kids to be more 'active', but now with Kinect and parents being easily gullible, finds Kinect to be a better medium to be more active.  As well kids can just lie telling their parents that the Wii isnt active enough so they should now get an Xbox360 and Kinect.....and while they're at it along with a few Halo and CoD games, thus the kid's push towards HD gaming =P

*Jokingly IMO, tho could be some truth to it*

Wild, especially given that Nintendo's got nothing in any region until at least Summer

They just don't play a good late-gen console strategy. Haven't since the SNES

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

man Xbox is eating their competitors...sad thing for Wii...for PS3 isnt that bad because it rarely sold better than the Xbox in america...but still my opinion is that Sony should do something over there...i think Sony is a little bit too optimistic with KZ3...maybe Sony think this will have a little impact and yes it will maybe have...but only for one week and Xbox is outselling PS 2:1...and Killzone will never push like 60-70k more consoles over there ^^

Price price price

$299 is where PS3 is at, thats where PS2 launched. Lets be happy to see PS3 doing this well worldwide despite that.

Wait till $199...

Same can be said of the 360.  It hasn't had a price cut in two years and is in the drivers seat in terms of price drop.  Sony is for sure not dropping price this year IMO, they just started posting profit for the first time since launch on the PS3 which so far has been a financial disaster.  They need to make that money back and are much more concerned with profits than with market share.

That being said the 360 will be hitting the $149 price point this year and it will be the best selling console in America for the year, outselling Wii.

Winner again. I think this is the year of the X360.

I think that depends on if you are a sales analyst or a gamer.  ;)

lol... nice spin.

The X360 is $299 and is selling like hotcakes despite being one year older, less powerful, no bluray, no free online. (the Arcade is for casuals, minor sales)

Both will drop to $249 this year and the sales ratio will be maintained.

Exactly. The "casuals" have at least a chance to buy a 360 at that price, but the PS3, not at all.

$199 is very important to the PS3 because its main selling areas consists of EMEAA, something tells me price really matters in those regions.

And the 360 is available for $199, many people had problems playing Halo Reach co-op so we know many people buy those. Just cause it had no HDD doesn't mean its unplayable, its still has 4 GB memory for saves and xbl stuff.

360 really doesn't have a reason to be selling that much, I have a feeling once shipped numbers come out things will look differently, something just seems off, 360 hasn't even had a notable exclusive launch this year and kinect sales are droping and are less then the amount 360s are rising, the only other thing I can think of is people replacing 360s that broke but that doesn't make much sense either why now

Um, it's only February. Also, why would someone go out and pay for a 360 out of their own pocket when Microsoft would repair it for free?

Well there is a Kinect exclusive coming out next week, and games like Dead Space 2, and especially Test Drive Unlimited 2 (a sequel to a 360 exclusive), push more hardware on the 360. Not to mention, the 360 just came out of shortages, so people who wanted one in January can finally get one. Also, other then LBP2 and Killzone 3, what notable PS3 exclusives are there? What about Wii? PSP? DS? No one has anything really stellar now, all the big games are multiplatform HD.

Good point, maybe bulletstorm is selling the 360 consoles that would make sense, old 360 dev, shooter, over the top to grab attention that might be it

Yes, Bulletstorm is a good example of a game that would sell better on the 360 then PS3. 360 has a larger US audience, which is more shooter oriented. Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 should help PS3 numbers though to be fair.

The only problem with the Bulletstorm boost is that Killzone 3 is coming out that week as well bundled. That should even/make PS3 boost a bit higher.

Yea, but isn't Marvel Vs. Capcom coming out at a similar time? I agree, the week of Killzone 3, PS3 sales should bump above 360, but sales will still be close, and the gap between the two consoles should remain steady.

My original point was that this is true because Kinect has raised 360's popularity in general, and most of the better games are HD multiplatformers (Yes Killzone, and LBP score over 9/10, but so did Dead Space, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and it's likely that Bulletstorm Dragon Age 2, and Test Drive get high scores as well).
