Forums - Gaming - Rumor: Eurogamer source says NGP battery 4-5 hours, will be sold at a loss

With the history of how Nintendo and Sony estimate performance, I would expect the PSP2's battery life to be 3 (1) hours while the 3DS's will probably be closer to 6 to 8 hours; Nintendo's estimates tend to be based on "real world" usage while Sony tends to report their best case scenarios.

With that said, with this system announced I would expect it to be released later than people think (2) (mid 2012), cost more than people are currently imagining (3) ($350 to $500), or for Sony to be hemorrhaging money from hardware losses (4); and (potentially) some combination of the three (5).

Above we have a post that has several oppinions on future Sony actions and performance the tone of which can be summarized as follows:

(1) - negative

(2) - negative

(3) - negative

(4) - negative

(5) - negative

Do I see a trend there?

You may not like it, but Happy Squirrel's post will most likely turn out to be true.

5 hours is fine, any less is poor.

my prediction of 10 min battery life was wrong :(

Bullshit... even with my PSP1k I still managed to get 4 hours while playing overclocked ( homebrew). I doubt that battery will be sub 4 hours on the NGP if you use your headphones, and play games offline. Lets be honest, not many portables can last above 4 hours if 3G or wi-fi is on, so its pretty avrege if you ask me. And 3 hours playing uncharted online on the go... thats fine with me

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Well i'm not going to lie. I'm not particularly happy with the battery life and I meantioned that strongly in the 3DS thread which if I remember correctly has a 3 - 5 hour battery life. However considering the power of the PSP2 I will not chew them out as much.

So wait let me get this straight? 3DS which has 3D in it, which uses more power than most devices (for example if you turn off 3D you give the device about 8 hours), you chewed them out, but this you are going to let it slide?

(This applies to every one who did it, and thinks this is alright, besides Hunter_alien, since he was one of the only people who actually accepted it both times)

Tisk tisk tisk. I thought sony would have learned that selling at a loss is probably not a good idea. Especially since most portable gamers don't value graphics so much, and people who want a nice multimedia device will want better battery life.

Playstation 3 has been a financial failure for them, I really hope they have some good plans for the psp2. I would hate to see them close their gaming division considering their first party titles are some of the best games this generation.
