I'm talking about absolute sales of the generation, not of any specific machine. I personally can't see the 3DS PsP2 selling much less than the DS PsP, as it's directly the opposite of anything that's happened before.

I have no trouble seeing the Wii 2 sell less than the Wii, though. It could easily lose to the next Playstation and Xbox, and thus sell less than the Wii, similarily to what happened with the Ps2.

That's exactly my point; smartphones and other gadgets are eating into the portable gaming market, effectively shrinking the sales potential for the 3DS and PSP2. So even though the market may remain flat or even grow in the next generation of handhelds, it will be distributed between more platforms and thus we'll see less sales for the best selling ones (despite growth in the home console market, the Wii appears to be a long way away from ever beating the PS2's lifetime sales).

70m-80m. I'm just not sure specific handheld devices for just gaming have so much of a future anymore and I can sort of see them being redundant to alot of people. Still alot of sales though, just not what the DS pulled off.

Depends how many HW revisions there are. I don't think there will be as many as the DS had... So it will sell less. :)

Its going to have a huge audience and smartfones and apple products really havent hurt the product pplso i thin 200 million at most 170 at least

I say 120-150 million. Why do I think it will sell less then DS. Simple their is more competition. NGP isn't the only competition that will steal Nintendo market share the I-Phone , I-Pad, PlayBook , PSPhone etc...etc... will all begin to eat away at the handheld market.

I think Nintendo DS will outsell 3DS by up to about 20-30 million simply due to more competition. Don't consider phones competition well Apple considers Nintendo competition and Nintendo for sure thinks like wise. I think with gaming becoming more popular on I-Pods, Phones and tablets it will no doubt eat away some market share from Nintendo.

However I still expect 3DS to sell way better then PSP did this gen and the 120-million mark is low enough that I am pretty sure it will be above it.

It will sell 100m with ease, then it will be a matter of how much will it last, I think 150M is an easy target.

Too early to guess its LTD, but I don't think it could sell less than 90m, just look at the support of it and how previous Nintendo handhelds performed...not sure if it'll pass DS, 160m is A LOT.

Some 90-100 million I'd guess.
