Well good points but considering how large the gaming industry has grown since the DS originally launched in 2004, it may be a little too early to count it out from hitting DS like numbers. Over the course of DS's lifespan we saw an enormous expansion in the European and Asian markets. We are still currently seeing those in sales of other systems currently which are reaping the benefits. I mean the last decade thanks to PS2, DS, Wii, Facebook, and Apple have monstrously grown the market. So maybe if we think percentage wise of "current market then" and DS sales compared to "current market now/future" with 3DS sales it won't be as impressive, but the market 3DS is entering is vastly different than the one DS entered. I'm not saying it'll sell more than DS, but it is in a much better position to hit higher sales than the DS was in.
Moving on with that I think Apple marketshare growing only helps other sectors of gaming to grow. Gaming is gaming and consumers understand that. As Apple and Facebook move more consumers into the gaming market, more of them are going to look for things past Apple and Facebook. We saw this with DS, Wii and PS2. As these three systems brought in more and more consumers (especially in Europe and Asia for PS2 and DS), we saw them also moving more consumers into the other sectors of gaming such as with the PS3, 360, and PC gaming. I really don't think Apple/Facebook gaming as hindering sales of the 3DS, but if anything like a conduit for more consumers of the 3DS. Similarly to how Wii, DS, and PS2 were a conduit to other gaming sectors. I think we'll also see Kinect and Move have similar affects.
But I mean still good points all around, I just think the main thing we all need to realize is just how much bigger gaming is now than a few years ago. Largest entertainment industry out there and is becoming global rather than just America and Japan. Won't say 3DS will be the biggest thing ever, but if anything has a chance to really take off... it is the 3DS.
