Putting in disk checks would be an equally effective and more consumer friendly thing to do

Disk checks can be bypassed with a simple patch. Key activation on a remote server isn't easily hackable.

They've done wonders for stopping PC piracy

The pirates will have this cracked in months, most likely.

Tease.

Can someone explain this to me in dummy terms?

Every game will work like an MMO. There will be a serial number to activate your game and a serial number embedded on the disc.

This is a logical step to stop soon-to-be rampant piracy. It might just work.

That's a good idea IMO. I usually buy games new anyways. So it wouldn't hurt me in the least.

I don't think this is a good idea, it will just make people angry. Especially game stores.

Yes, i know, but its better for developers for Sony systems, and this should keep Activision off their back for the moment.

as Activision cant blame Sony for PS3 COD hacks, when Sony are blocking piracy, which Activision are claiming is the reason for COD hacks, which we know now dosent make sense. and it also gives Sony and Activision the ability to completely block that code (copy) of COD being played again and they can also ban this persons account.

So what about people who doesn't have their PS3 hooked on the internet.. they just won't be able to play new games forever?

No i dont think so, because not everyone has internet access. i think the code only works with the disk. so say you buy God of War 3.

theres an algorythm on the disk that accepts the code you type in and tells you PS3 that the copy is genuine. however, if your not connected to PSN, i dont see how Sony cant know how many times you've used the same code, because the information on a disk cant change (its write only), so the disk dosent know how many times you've used the code.

any answers anyone??

but if someone distributed the game and the serial in internet, people not connected to Internet can play that copy, right?

Sounds terrible.

but then these hackers cant play online or they'll be banned, which shuts up Activision, i think Sony are more interested in that than piracy tbh.

Woo, DRM on consoles! What a pity, guess I'm going to miss quite a few interesting games then. I still haven't bought a single game that has DRM on PC and I don't intend to do it on a console either, much less if that would be the case with every game.
