hmmm do you guys think the blue ds or the black ds will be more in demand. I'm preordering for myself, but if ebay prices end up getting crazy I might just sell it and buy another one later on.

From this thread alone it looks like Black. Personally, I like the blue one.

not planning on buying one -- i'm apparently an apple fanboy on the handheld front.  i'm still piqued a bit by the psp2 but if it turns out to not double as a smartphone (phone, internet, gps, email, music, pictures, movies, texting, apps, ect.) i'll be upgrading to the next iphone as my next handheld.

i know you're trying to talk up all of the features, superchunck, but compared to iphone/android the 3DS is missing a lot of the key features i consider critical in a mobile device.

That is why I have a Android phone.

One device for mobile computing, communication, and occasional casual games. (granted with emulators I can play tons of old school games, but controls suck, unless I use my android to sync to a wiimote)

One device for pure gaming with added media and online support.

Personally, I will only use my phone. The game machine is 1/2 the price of a smart phone and requires no contracts or monthly fees, making it perfect for my 7 and 8 year olds. (or anyone who really wants games as the games on the portable consoles are just better overall than the phones)

okay first off -- the 3DS is $250 while an ipod touch starts at $230 and an iphone starts at $50.

but anyhoo -- here's my personal problem with your logic.  I only have two pockets.  one holds my car keys, one holds my phone.  i just don't have room for another device.  maybe a 3DS is a better choice for a 7 to 8 year old but the market is a lot bigger than just children.  more importantly -- i'm not a child even if i act like it sometimes.

and lastly -- i'm not trying to doom the 3DS or psp2 in any way.  people just seem to have no respect for apple/google in the realm of being a competitor in the games market.  and for some reason that annoys me to the point i feel like defending it.

At the moment no, I personally find it to be too expensive for what it does.

The only thing I would buy it for is the games. Pictures, web browsing, etc... is done on my phone.

Will probably pick one up when it drops into the ~$150 range.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Also Superchunk, supposedly the 3DS isn't launching with all of it's features.

Missing from launch will be.

Web Browser

Nintendo's E-Shop (Where you buy games online)

DSiWare Transfer

Play/Access 3D Movies

Nintendo also did not give a time table on when we could expect them either.

I'm not sure there will be too much of an ebay market.  By the looks of things there are a lot of hoarders right now trying to make a profit on the 3DS. I think ebay is going to have so many people trying to sell the 3DS that the price is going to get driven down.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

I'm going to later this week. I have the cash, but I'm waiting to settle the Amazon account stuff with my parents...

how much do you have to pay on the pre-order on amazon.

I have pre-ordered, though if the price doesn't drop to something more reasonable I will pirate the hell out of it until I feel I haven't been jipped.

Amazon prices compared

US Store Price - $249.99 (£156.31)
UK Store Price - £219.99 ($351.79)

Even accounting for VAT this is just wrong.  No wonder it is region locked.

Yesterday, this morning, ASDA had it for 217 WITH Monkey Ball 3DS

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I pre-oredered several days ago. While it is incredibly flawed the games are just too dam good to resist. Besides I can hack it to get around the region locking.
