Forums - Nintendo - The highest ranked game on the currentgen system IS mario galaxy

Man if this sticks then that'll be 3 generations in a row that Nintendo, as a publisher themselves, takes the top rated game. If there was enough reviewers in NES and SNES time they probably would have gotten it then as well.

Im not planning to buy it, owning a Wii would probably help me buying it. Ive played a fair amount of it and its great, not as good as mario64 in my opinion but whatever.

Wait, Galaxy isn't selling well?

Not as much as we would hope. As the 3 year hyped halo 3 of the wii with a userbase over 15 million and reserves were out in what june I would really expect more. In japan? those numbers made me sad.

Japan is the ONLY place this game isn't living up to expectations. In the US, it's absolutely crushing them.

I was one who thought that Galaxy could never possibly surpass Halo 3's lifetime sales, but it's becoming increasingly clear that it may. I urge you to do historical analysis of previous Mario Games to see how they sell over time.

Here's a start: in its first month of sales in the US, Super Mario Galaxy sold more copies than Super Mario Sunshine did in August (its launch month) + September + October + November + December. Super Mario Sunshine went on to sell 5.5 million copies worldwide, 3 million in the US alone.

I'm not sure it will actually best Halo 3, but "not as well as we would hope" isn't even remotely appropriate. Super Mario Galaxy is shattering Mario sales trends.

What bod said. Halo is a front end loaded game sales wise. Of course, it's also a legs game that sells forever, but most of those millions tend to happen rather fast.

Galaxy will sell big numbers for a long time.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Not to mention Galaxy is selling more faster in America than Sunshine. I mean Sunshine opened about 250k first month in America, while Galaxy opened 1.1 million.

Why? it's extremely good but what about Twilight princess, Halo 3, CoD4, lost planet, Gears of war, new super mario bros, Phantom hourglass, etc... all have been just as good or better methinks
