The majority of the people like to show others their new car, their new house, their new clothes, their new 3DS, not their achievements and trophies. So, sorry but no.

Actually, one of my co-workers came to work a few months back with a trophy he'd won at some karate tournament.

We all politely smiled, then laughed behind his back.  True story.

LOL, very funny moment. I wonder what would happen if instead a real trophy is an achievement...

My guess?  Same thing, but without the polite smiles or waiting for him to leave the room.

Poor guy :(

I think the new coin system is better. Still, nothing very interesting to show people.

I don't know how serious is this.... I don't believe achivements/trophies are nowhere near to be a key thing

You say this but it's definitely a prime motivation for those on the border of buying something. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "It has easy achievements and it's terrible, so I got it." etc.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

This reminds me of the time when PS3 fans didn't wanted a system like achievements....Now so many are spending hours to get one trophy..

Yeah Nintendo should also implent an Achievement/trophy system...

Kind of.  When I have a choice between the two, I do generally go for the one with achievements because I just like the sense of progress.  I'm not playing for the achievements but they sure do help.

Besides, who is to say that is wrong?

But the counter that goes up by one each time you collect a star in Super Mario Galaxy doesn't give you a sense of progress? You don't play for achievements? This means you play Harry Potter for its own sake?

Man, that's just messed up.

I get stars in Mario but then I don't see that progress spread across other games.  I know it's silly but I simply like achievements.

Didn't you skip out on one of the Mario Galaxy games for a Harry Potter game just for the sake of some cheevos?

Anybody can say it's wrong, really.

So it's me. It is me, to say that it is wrong.

That shit ain't right.

For you, sure that can be wrong but my problem with him telling me that I'm playing my games wrong.

So you hold that the entertainment value of achievements is greater than the difference in entertainment value propositions between a Mario Galaxy game and a Harry Potter game?

What can I say, I like seeing my progress across games.  I may like Super Mario Galaxy 2 more than Gears of War but I can't help it, I love seeing my gamerscore go up.

I collect things, it's kind of what I do.

You can see where this radically differentiates from the norm, I assume.

I really don't care for achievements/trophies.  It doesn't add anything to the gameplay.  I am glad Nintendo hasn't followed suit in this.  Eventually they probably will with either next home console system or a system in future.  It isn't a big deal and it isn't going to make or break a sell to their consumer.  No one is going to walk in to the store to pick up a 3DS and then realize it doesn't have achievements and not buy the system because of that.  Nintendo hasn't dropped the ball on this.

Perhaps in future they can make the whole achievement system better.  Such as earn enough achievement points with Nintendo 1st party games and you get free stuff (aka Nintendo Club).  That would be better than some stupid trophy.
