@Adam: Do you mean lauches combined or the time of NA launch, when it was available in NA only, or the time of Japanese launch, when it was available in NA and Japan, or the launch in PAL regions, when it was available in NA, Japan, Europe and Australia?

What I mean is this: They are talking about a 2 day splash. What do you think will happen after that? By Dec 17 Nintendo will probably put their focus on the Japanese New Year and US supply will go below 100k per week or something. Whatever the US gets extra on that weekend will be taken away from other regions and in turn US supply will be reduced after that weekend. They're not actually increasing supply because they cannot go above their 5.4 million this quarter, it's just a happy weekend to cheer up frustrated US customers. It's PR.

There was talk about the "2nd launch" of the PS3 in Japan. That is when the lowered the price, introduced a new model, did more ads, started releasing more games, and sales went way up.

If you are refering to the late PAL launch then that cannot be counted as a seperate launch unless you want to count each region different, which would give the PS3 three launches [Japan was 2 weeks before American]. In terms of a sudden influx of consoles region-wide on a specific date:- You could class the PStwo as a relaunch of the PS2.

Technically, you could classify any redesign of a console as a relaunching, provided it sells well enough. I'd put GBA SP, DS Lite, and PS2 slim in this category.
however, it's pretty obvious that this thread is meant to refer to the fact that people are lining up for the Wii even though it's been over a year since it's first launch. It's like the thing is getting a second launch.
