Forums - Microsoft - Kinect is the new Tickle Me Elmo

Are you being ironic? if not, this is just the same as happened to the Wii.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Well, I'm just gonna sit back, grab my popcorn and enjoy everyone kill eachother.

On the left: Beuli2 (reperesentated by Homer) watching Rolstopabble and Metalicube x Vgchartz. It should be fun.

Almost seems like Kinect has permanently turned Xbox & Nintendo fans against one another, or at least it has for the time being. If there's one thing casual software seems to be doing, it's splitting up the market. May as well get accustomed to it, because as long as there's a big business to be had, these types of games will continue to be released, be it Kinect or Wii.

People seem to have fun comparing the Wii and Kinect . . . I mean, Sony and Microsoft fans have been at each other's neck since the gen began. Wii fans have been looking for people to fight against for a while, but the Wii's been destroying the competition like Skynet will destroy humanity (in 2012) so they must be glad to release pent up confrontational angst, after finally finding a (loud) following of something thats selling similarly.

Makes for lolz.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Nice thread. I bet you are very proud of yourself now.

It's the greatest gift of all!

I like this thread.. Roll makes his best thread in months and new members unfamiliar with Roll... I think this is a comeback but is it temporary? We'll see if RollStoppable is not just a fad which ended in 2008...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Hmmm. where have I heard this before?

I LOVE ICELAND!

You're absolutely right about the fad thing, but the difference is this one is more of a forced fad then a natural one, advertising and hype can only go so far, I really don't see kinect lasting more then a few months, everyone seems to think some great software is going to come out for it despite us not even getting a glimpse, ps move has like 5 tech demos out there hinting and what might be coming, kinect has nothing, I'm pretty sure it's already nearing it's limits I'm actually surprised it's lasting this long

>"Kinect was made first and foremost, because Microsoft views the population roughly like this (skip to 7:00 - 7:20 for the >relevant part):"

I have been playing video games since Sears Pong in 1976 and My Xbox 360 broke, but when I was playing the games and would play some of the demos it was hard to remember what each button did.  Like when you load the 360 demos, it will flash a picture of the controller and tells you what buttons do what.  It is very confusing.

So, uh yeah, it makes a big difference dude.  Playing an Atari 2600 with a joystick and one button and simple 2D and going to complicated 3D with 11 buttons and a multi-functional DPAD that also has at least 4 more actions plus 2 analog thumbsticks  that is a lot to remember and it is very intimidating.

So, yes.  Microsoft is right.  If your mind is young and you remember what each button does through trial and error or you memorize the manual for the gamepad and you play video games every night then it might not be as hard.

However, if on the otherhand you never play video games or you have a life then it's not going to be easy at all and it's probably going to scare a lot of people off.

Tickle Me Elmo was a doll that couldn't do much.

The technology behind Kinect can be revolutionary and it is useful, there is a big difference.  It's like saying well this plastic car sold great for Christmas and so then you go on to say that a real car is just a gimmick.

Kinect will make it to the PC and it can be put in cars and it can actually save lives if you modify the technology a little bit.

For gaming it is revolutionary, it is the start of the Holodeck type of technology in the newer Star Treks, it's the first part down that path.

You can argue this all you want, but it can be used in a real world of things that improve life and entertainment, I can't say that for Tickle Me Elmo.

Entertainment in Movies, Music, Video games.  It can teach people to dance and have fun at the same time in their own home.  It can keep their mind off their problems, it can relax them and it get them physically healthy without cheating (you could always fake out the wii controller).

So, no I don't think Tickle Me Elmo did anything like this.
