Kinect is just huge...

Bundle with Adventures could do close to 1 million next week... 5.5m by year end.

Kinect Sports will get close to 2.0m by year end.

Dance central will come close or pass 1.0m.

Kinectimal will pass 0.5m.

All of this will have happened in just 8 weeks.

Thats 10m software units attributable to Kinect by year end.

Kinect hardware is indeed very strong, but the software is not. You could say software sales are good nothing more. Combined Kinect software (Kinect Adventures excluded) only sold 3,093,193 units in 6 weeks during the holidays. That's not impressive at all, just ok. I'm afraid Kinect software will have a rough struggle in the slow weeks after the holidays.

So in 6 weeks 4 million Kinects have been sold and an additional 3 million units of software were also sold.  Sounds pretty impressive to me.  It isnt like you dont have a piece of software when you purchase a Kinect. You do either need to spend $150 on a standalone sensor or $300 minimum for a console bundle.  How many of those 4 million are wrapped and sitting under a Christmas tree and additional software will be purchased after Christmas and into next year.

Sure software will keep selling but i doubt any of the currenct Kinect games available will make the WW software top ten after the holidays.

Well it is pretty hard for an install base of 6 million to make the top 10 when the competition starts at 45 million.  Ratio wise I expect Kinect games to sell very well compared to non Kinect games.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Exactly...

Want to see the top 5 selling Wii games after 6 weeks on 30th december? (even better period for sales)

Wii Sports 2.5m (bundled)

Zelda: 1.8m

Wii Play: 778k (bundled with the extra controller)

Red Steel: 288k

Rayman RR: 226k

not very impressive that... doesnt look like that console and its software is going anywhere does it... ?

My favorite is that Metallicube keeps insisting it's Halo/Call of Duty/Slim that're why the 360 keeps selling so well. Of course, if you point out that Kinect Sports, an unbundled game, outsold Halo this week, he will promptly ignore your post, as he did mine in the Americas thread. Rather comical, but I expect nothing when it comes to trying to logically debate anybody on this site.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

But but but but... I thought that the Wii and DS were doomed!1!

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

a good point very well made sir.

there is a lot of Wii supporting hatred for kinect isnt there...

Oh yeah. It should also be noted that just about everything on Kinect is a new IP right now. It doesn't have a game like Zelda, which is almost guaranteed high sales numbers. Even Rayman, although RR is its own series, was an established IP when the Wii came out.

1st: The 3 million software for Kinect combines sales of 7 games not 5

2nd: Wii initial software sales weren't great also, I have to give you that. But top 7 games at Wii launch still did 3,652,443 units.

3rd. Wii European launch was 3 weeks after American launch.

4th: Everyone at that time had to pay 250 euro/dollars for a Wii whereas, not every new Kinect owner pays 300$ for the hardware.

5th: I've excluded initial Wii sports sales for Japan.

Think for yourself, question authority

Well, I've been coming here since 2006 and it is still the "same old, same old" here at VGC during the holiday season.

Lots of PS3 fans (added recruits imported from N4G) doing the flip flop between sales & quality according to when they need it. PS3 fans need to remember how bad the PS3's software lineup was at launch (Resistance was the only good game for the first 2 months). So stop ripping apart Kinect's software in its first 2 months, please.

Lots of 360 semi-bashing and...nowadays, the downplaying of Kinect's success and excuses for Move's 2nd place status.

Also, lots of ass kicking by Nintendo HW to both Sony & Microsoft's HW. Some things just don't change

Being in 2nd feels so much better than being in 3rd

But the 360 has a much larger install base ;)

I'm amazed by Kinect's sales, but without a constant flow of good games it'll dry up soon. I mean, how many big-profile Kinect games have a release date?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

For any that say bundled games always far outsell non-bundled games, I present a Sports competition ...

Kinect Sports (X360)
Microsoft
6 273,677 1,246,435
34
Sports Champions (PS3)
Sony Computer Entertainment
13 157,527 1,274,206

And before someone jumps me (again), Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort aren't here because they didn't launch this 'season'.

And...?If they had, sales would be even bigger.

the point he was trying to make was that the lowest selling one IS bundled... the other isnt.

It's not bundled everywhere. And what people have to understand is that alot of title already released are Move compatible now, while only games made for Kinect are playable wth Kinect. Now I'm letting you continue your pointless comparisons.

I just think Microsoft made a really good decision not bundling their best Kinect games.  It seems to have helped the sales of the highest rated software.

I don't understand the logic of your answer... Why do you tell us that? What does it have to do in the discussion?
