GT5 will sell a ton of consoles as the defacto must have next gen game, and will end up 1-2 million ahead of MK wii in world wide sales. Prologue will be a good clue as to how big GT5 will be. |
If Prologue is a clue then GT5 is in trouble. It just flopped hard opening day in Japan.

That's what I expect. Plus, GT5 won't be out until late 2008 (most likely early/mid 2009) and the user base will be much larger for the PS3 at that time then current levels. I predict that GT5 will sell 5 times the number of GT5 Prologue. Many PS3 owners love their racing games and early in a consoles life the hardcore gamers who love the driving sims will give it a great attach rate in comparison to how GT4 did on the PS2 when there were many casual gamers who got frustrated on games like that.

These are both AAA games, and both will sell like, um ,….hotcakes. However, the PS3 is missing the advantage here.
Sony has far fewer consoles in play, and at least some of those consoles are being used as BR players. N has almost 2X as many consoles, though we do know some ARE in nursing homes ;).
Now MK:DD did well even on the lowly selling Cube (not sure if the Cube was #3 or #2 at the point when DD was released). N is now the leading selling console, with the margin growing in their favor.
Every GT has had the advantage of being on the #1 console of each generation. Now they are on the only console still being outsold by its last gen predecessor. I believe GT will do VERY well, and sell lots of systems, it looks amazing. BUT, as of now, Wii has about a 2:1 advantage of consoles in the marketplace, and there is no sign of Wii sales slowing down even after the holidays.
However, I do believe GT might have much stronger initial sales than MK, for several reasons.
* PS3 owners NEED good games. There is just too much, “When the good games come out….” chatter to think that this might not happen. GT is one the Holy Grail PS3 games, it will have a big attachment rate quickly.
*Wii games tend to sell over time (partly due to the amount of families and casuals that own the system). Most of the Wii titles in their top sellers list sold with legs, not out of the box. Plus Wii has recently had a lot of well received titles recently, and with Smash & Fit probably hitting the market before Kart, there will not be a NEED for a great game as much as there is with the PS3.
But at the end of the day, I think the numbers point to winner: Wii (with a possible landslide, depending on how well PS3 sells before it's release).
How is prologue a clue to how Gt 5 will do
I am a HARDCORE GT FAN..but I won't even consider buying prologue
Supporter of
SONY & Nintendo
Consoles owned - SNES, N64, PS, GC, PS2, PSP, PS3
I DO NOT support Xbox
My prediction for YEARS END:
WII - 18.3 Million
Xbox 360 - 15 Million
Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million
I have decided if I am a Wii360 PS360, but GT and FFXIII may be the games that swing me to PS3- Either way I am not paying more than 299 for a console.

Is that including PSN sales?

Same here. I've bought all GT's but never a prologue. Those that buy the Prologue are those who are too anxious and can't handle waiting for the full release and will pay for a game that isn't on the level of a full GT game that we are used to.
But I do know that I will be buying GT5 at release.

Yojimbo, Y-Koron said that Sony was expected to sell 250k for the week not LTD. As for the OP's question, very good question. The GT series always sells exceptionally well but I think its going to be hamstrung the PS3 userbase this time around. I think MK Wii will sell more but it will most likely be very close. MK Wii will appeal to both the casual and hardcore users of the Wii. The GT series is for the hardcore.
