Some Famitsu 1st week comparisons...

Home console Donkey Kong platformers 1st week

  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES) 257,121 (~3,000,000)
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES) 254,708 (1,534,793)
  • Dokey Kong Country 3: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES) 130,630 (1,199,720)
  • Donkey Kong 64 (N64) 162,262 (848,375)
  • Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (GC) 46,594 (220,132)
  • New Play Control! Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (Wii) 25,216 (74,829).

Seriously... You shouldn't include Jungle Beat in there at all considering how you played it. Unless of course I'm wrong, and you could play it without the stupid bongos... I know the NPC! version was without the Bongo controller. If you're gonna include that then you may aswell include portable DK games. It looks like you're really grasping at straws to make DKCR seem more than what it is right now.

And why compare Media Create 1st week to Famitsu?

If we compare MC DKCR to VGC past DK games, here are the previous DK 1st Weeks excluding Bongo...

  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES) 407,456 (~3M)
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES) 459,197 (2.2M)
  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (SNES) 279,559 (1.75M)
  • Donkey Kong 64 (N64) 228,967 (~1.1M)
  • NPC! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (Wii) 24,344 (144k)... Honestly shouldn't even be counted here.
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns (Media Create) (Wii) 163,310

So there we have the actual lowest ever opening for a real DK Game ever in Japan that wasn't a port, jarrod. So no. DKCR isn't "the best series debut in 3 generations". Sorry.

I wonder if Brett can tell us what VGC's number is based on for these 3 titles and why there is a such big discrepency between VGC data and Famitsu's.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

DKCR sales are fine what's everyone complaining about? It'll probably sell over 5 million worldwide anyway.

GT5 is outdoing GT PSP, so it's not the worst.

Handheld versions of games aren't included for the reason being the handheld market is completely different to the console market. Especially in Japan.

Except we're talking about Monster Hunter, right?!  lol

Well this thread went to hell.

Anywho, how's everyone enjoying Donkey Kong Country Returns and Gran Turismo 5? I hear they're amazing games (don't have either of them myself...).

*hugs all around*

It is better than chocolate ice cream in a hot day!

Above: still the best game of the year.

GT5 is already bundled.  It hasn't seemed to help.

Not a themed bundle, obviously.

On that same note, DKC:R is on the highest selling Nintendo home console, yet sold the lowest in the series. Sometimes, things aren't always so clear cut.

Well, I'm not sure GT5 will see a Prologue-esque bundle (ie: given away free a year after release, doubling it's ltd).  That's actually never happened for a GT game before, they've gotten release timed bundles similar to GT5.

Yes. Completely ignore the complete re-release at a much cheaper price. Spec III never sold a single copy!   >_>

Honestly, this thread has turned dumb. It's no longer about this weeks sales at all. It's all about past tracking, which service is right, and which person is reaching farther with this argument. See, I went and contributed above!

Uh... afaik, Spec III wasn't sold standalone?  It was only bundled with PS3s over a several month period for free as a value add incentive?

It was sold standalone and was sold at the same price as 'The Best' titles, iirc.
