this makes me feel like making a WRPG vs JRPG thread.

I wanna HD JRPG, the graphics whore in me wants to see pretty cut scenes and excellent graphics.

From the looks of things no one can really agree on a good JRPG, so I'm thinking screw it and I might just get Demon's Souls or Yakuza 3.

In all honesty, the entire home console sector this gen for JRPGs has been, frankly, poor. It's not quite as bad as the Atari 2600 generation, but it's close. But if what you really want is a quality HD RPG on the PS3, I'm going to side with Demons' Souls. Sure, it's got more of a western feel to it, but from the games I've played on the PS3, I'm going to say it's one of the best games on the system. It's one of the games that has made me consider getting a PS3 myself.

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

Buy a DS. Then pick from Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Dragon Quest 9, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, or The Four Heroes of Light. If none of those titles work for you, don't worry; those are just the major JRPG releases for the DS this year.

In rough counterchronological order, other great DS JRPGs include Bowser's Inside Story, Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor, Kingdom Hearts, Nostalgia, The World Ends With You, Crystal Chronicles, Pokemon 4th Gen, Rune Factory, or one of the umpteen remakes and ports of classic NES and SNES games.

There's a reason that the DS rivals the popularity of all the consoles combined in Japan this gen.

I enjoyed WKC far more than FFXIII

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Resonanse of Fate is good

White Knight Chronicles isn't as bad as people say it is, but you should wait for WKC2 since it have the first game remade

Star Ocean 4 is great

Valkyria chronicles is great

Demon's  Souls is G.R.E.A.T

also Yakuza 3 is a must have (yes its more of an RPG than FFXIII)

if you don't have a 360 then  Lost Odyssey alone is worth getting the console for , its the best JRPG in a long time, how bad is it to get a 360 to enjoy it?

Would Folklore count?  Great game; highly underrated.

Folklore isn't even an RPG, its a Repetitive OVERRATED (seriously 9.5 from IGN?) Hack and Slash game with repetitive gameplay and repetitive level design, did i mention repetitive?

Agreed, the home console trinity has been really poor in the JRPG section. Some decent WRPG's though but that hardly helps the OP.

I'm playing LO right now and I'm in love with it.

Originally, this is what I wanted to tell the OP.  This game, Blue Dragon, and Magna Carta 2 were all great in my opinion (I hope we aren't overhyping LO.  It really blew my expectations away, though.).  But for the PS3, Valkyria Chronicles is the closest I've come to playing something like a Final Fantasy (including FF13!)--and it's hardly a traditional JRPG.

Look up reviews for Folklore, White Knight Chronicles, and anything from the "Tales" series.  If something catches your eye, buy it.  I buy games that aren't five-star status all the time.  I often get surprised.  That's how games like Crimson Gem (PSP) and Magna Carta 2 (stopped me from playing Mass Effect 2 when it came out) got into my collection.  The JRPG's are there.  Just go with some of the lesser known titles.  Once you get into the story and the character, your JRPG hunger will be satisfied, Gilgamesh.
