Forums - Sales - VGC's Black Friday PS3 software sales are pretty unbelievable :/

I'm assuming the black friday sales were sort of rushed and accurate sales for each individual black friday ps3 bundle weren't made and the sales of these games will be adjusted up soon. I don't think the actual hardware bundles were untracked though because ps3 increased 220% from last week. There is no way it could have done that without the bundles. I do expect quite a few of those ps3 games to get numbers above 50k when adjustments are made though.

I dion't think it was just the PS3 bundles with missing software information. Forza 3 is listed at 200,000, but Alan Wake that is in the same bundle is not in the top 200 games (unless I'm completely missing it). So I'm sure as others in the thread have said, there will be a few corrections for the bundled sofware this week.

Alan Wake isn't bundled as a disc there, it's a card. That might be why VGC hasn't got it tracked.

Although they damn well SHOULD track it! The game deserves to sell tons!

no alan wake bundle was a voucher or sumthing that lets you download it and VGC doesn't track download sales.

By my count there were dozens and dozens of black friday week deals in the USA just at major retailers, around 60 I believe, but I'd have to look. It took me 90 minutes just to compile the Sunday - Wednesday, and Saturday promotions in addition to the Black Friday ads article we ran a couple weeks ago which had other deals so Brett would know what the hell was going on for discounts.

I would agree with the recent poster - Brett does hw and sw compilations seperately. He likely saw all the bundles, and extrapolated PS3 hw accordingly, but then forgot to put in the hw sw bundled titles on the software side. You have to remember this is really the first time PS3 has had several bundles with major software in the USA at the same time as well.

Its also possible the figures he gave are correct too, as the games are only for retailer x, or y for a period of hours on Black Friday itself, rather for the entire week.

Well that is different since most (all?) of those sales are probably directly from PSN instead of a code that was sold at retail.  On the other hand Patapon 2 was sold in stores as a code in a box, and wasn't tracked.  So that would support the idea that VGC doesn't track download codes as sales.

I doubt the software numbers for BF bundled titles are correct given what they were like last year.

I think it is very possible that what happened is in the 2nd paragraph of your post. Brett must've forgotten to add the SW numbers bundled with HW.

And we aren't talking about small retailers here...we're talking about Walmart, GameStop and BestBuy. What are their market share like ?

You said he likely missed the software count, and it is also likely they he didnt consider the hardware boost for those bundles. Waiting for NPD to confirm numbers.

Wow Vgchartz really? I thought I could trust software numbers.

......

VGC does adjustments all the time.......

Exactly.

That and it is well known that SW is less accurate than HW.
