Does anyone know how many Wiimotes have been shipped WW so far? I'd like to know.

Does anyone know why we are talking about how many Wiimotes being shipped in a PS Move shipment sales thread? I'd like to know.

'Cos everyone and their dog is comparing Move to Kinect in this thread, I'd like to know how they stack up against Wiimotes sold.

MOVE and Kinect can be compared on some level...both are new peripherales launched recently.

Why on earth anyone would wanna compare them to Wiimote sales is beyond me

[start sarcasm] Hey hey lets compare MOVE/KINECT sales to Dualshock 3's and Xbox 360 Controllers while we're at it  [/end sarcasm]

Actually Darth, I don't think Kinect and Move can be that readily compared, despite the apparent similarities.  Clearly everyone does want to compare them - including ioi in his comparison article that fell apart in the comments section to the degree he had to re-write aspects of it.

Move is a multi-configuration device that actually can be most easily compared, from a sales perspective, to the Wii seperate controller sales due to the almost exact matching of configuration.

Kinect however is a single configuration device.

What a lot of people really need to realise is that it is both hard - without clear ratio data which in this case is not available - and in some ways futile to compare a multi-configuration device to a single configuration device.

ioi, for example, wanted to use the standard 1.7 controllers per individual owner for Move, but as I noted in his article there is plenty of reason to believe this may not hold true for Move, particularly at this early point.

At this point it is likely that almost every Kinect sold represents a single user - it won't be absolutely true but very close.  At this point Move could be anything from 1.5 units per user to 6 units per user, a huge spread of possibilites (although of course they are not all equally probably, I do doubt every Move owner has bought 6 units of controllers).

That's really not that easy to compare from a sales perspective.

Given that Sony themselves will never know the true install base for Move and all estimates will be based primarily on trying to guess the average ration of Move controllers to an individual, I can only assume all threads related to shipped numbers (which the original piece seemed to be clearly referring to) will be suitably epic.

All I know is, if they've sold 4.1 to retailers then the basic sell through is either okay or shippments will soon collapse as there is no way retailers will keep taking stock if it isn't selling.  Most likely, based on the fact that despite some stores being stocked sky high others are definately running out it's selling well enough on an on-going basis worldwide although there are also clearly allocation issues at the store level - which are really the retailers fault as normally Sony will deliver to the retailer and the retailer will decide the split to the stores.

What we need now is a true, killer app with a high enough attach rate to shed some light on the potential install base.

Until then, it's all wild guesses all the way.

Shipped numbers are what matter the most anyway,in my opinion..

Shipped are the numbers that can be trusted the most - these days - in terms of being sure they are almost certainly accurate, particularly when in official statements.  Clearly sell through (i.e. customer sales) is very important and it's cool this site estimates that, but the difference will always be the sell through to cusomters numbers shown here is an estimate and the shipped accurate to a certain date/time of recording.

That's also why this site - and other tracking sites - will always carefully review shipped releases to the estimates to look for any variations which could indicate issues with the estimates accuracy.

SONY will BLOW PAST their 5 Million Shipped Target!

A new internet meme I missed?

@news: amazing - since I never expected such numbers given such a short period of time, whether it's shipped or sold to customers... not a fan of move I gotta admit, but well done Sony.

I agree with what your saying..mostly.

What I was trying to get accross to Chebee was that on some levels we can still compare MOVE/Kinect as they are new peripherals launched recently. They are destined to be compared.......his justification of them being compared meaning that we must also compare Wiimote sales to them is weak and borderline flamebait.

No I just found that picture today

Your here at the birth of a new Internet meme founded by your friend, my dog!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

guys you understand SONY has these numbers so they aren't lying

They only released it to go

"Suck it Microsoft and Kinect, thats right we will beat you first with limited marketing sucka"

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Another ban hammer spree in a thread that evolved into shipped versus sold. All is as it was...

I really don't understand how people manage to get banned all the time.

Well. I'm not reading this thread all the way through. Hell no.

One thing though. Congrats Sony. Move is a success, without a killer app. Well played.

That's the amzing thing, no killer app, no $500 million budget, no Oprah,no Ellen, no Media Buzz, being called a failure so many times, and it keeps on selling.
