Source posted some interesting thoughts regarding the buying habits for the typical console owner with an informal breakdown of titles bought over the years of ownership.

Informal or not, the numbers seemed fairly reasonable so it would be interesting to see how the typical VGC user's buying trends mesh.

List by year and platform the number of titles purchased, or just list the number of games purchased this year per platform and the length of ownership (ie 1st year, 2nd year, etc.).

Limit the numbers to games purchased new for the purpose of tracking game sales as recorded by publishers. Regularly priced retail games (skip PSN, XBLA, WiWare, etc.)

2010

Wii: 3 (3 yrs 9 mos)

PS3: 8 (3 years 10 mos)

360: 4 (3 years 1 mo)

DS: 1 (3 years 10 mos)

PSP: 2 (5 mos)

Bought quite a few used ds and ps3 games though since i found some amazing prices.

Oh man, i lost count.

count every game released this year , take 30% of that number and you will get your answer

As you see the bulk of my games are used, and even the new ones are often at discounts (Splinter Cell Conviction I bought for $20 new this year).

PS3: 5 with one or two more planned till end of this year in my third year

PSP: 1 1 more planned (and a 4 or 5 second hand ones :) )   in my second year

PC:  4 or 5 not counting little stuff in my 15th or so year ;)

ooo buying new. Does Imported new games count if so 

this year i have bought 6 new titles and 4 used titles(pre 2010 release) 

and out of the 8 titles on my shelf only one still remains from last year (uncharted 2). I have traded all my 2008 purchases and alot of my 2009 and 10.
