Forums - Gaming - Overrated games .... are Overrated

i agree with Gears of War and assassins creed.I would also like to add littlebigplanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, NSMBWii, and Mass Effect 2. LittleBigPlanet was terribly boring, even considering the ridiculous amount of online maps. It probably didn't help that i was extremly hyped for it. NSMBWii was just an average mario platformer. Metal Gear Solid 4 wasn't that good. Gameplay was average, maybe if I cared more for the story I would like it. Mass Effect 2 is good, I just think its more of a high 8s good rather then a high 9s.

I'm surprised that Halo didn't make your list, it must be really getting cliche to call it overrated.

Other than total fanboys saying it is, there are many people I know personally who've tried the series and think its over-rated.

Such as myself...Played Halo 1 but I didn't enjoy it much. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it cause it got very repetitive.

But that may be because of my general "meh" attitude towards FPS and playing the game around 8 years after its launch

I will check out Reach when I eventually get a Microsoft console though...may it be a 360 or the Next xbox (assuming theres BC). I haven't given up on the franchise just yet.

I feel the same way.  I never could get into Halo even though I tried.  It's just boring for me.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I don't agree with SMG, because this game is incredible. Although you don't like the camera system, well, I had a monster fun and I adore space.

its not just the camera, its the motion controls, and the fact there is some level design flows that stand out especially at the end of every level.

Edit: and looking at your sig i think Metroid Other M is quite underrated

Ha, I agree with everything on the list... exept Uncharted. That was fucking lame dude and I do not approve. Actually, that's probably the worst thing you've ever done, and you've done some pretty terrible stuff

@ishiki  POP is cool, but no online, not saying online is the end all be all but it certainly helps replayablilty, I would have been traded in Uncharted 2 otherwise. Tomb Raider has better level design??? maybe. better puzzles??? hell yeah, but the gunplay sucked and thats where Uncharted really rapes ms. Croft.

As for 64, ill admit I was a PS guy never had N64 but i did play Mario 64 everynow and then, i didnt actually sit down and "play" it till I got the DS version (Luigi & Wario??? sold!) I was having a blast but IMHO the game just didnt age well for me. It wasnt the graphics I just didnt like that you have to replay levels over and over again to progress. it felt like the devs just try to make the illusion of depth and longevity when there wasnt any. Its not a bad game and by no means unplayable today like say Sonic Adventure. It just bored me after a while

i wasn't hyped for LBP at all , and it was a surprise.

i've played NSMBWii from start to finish with a friend and we had a blast, it might be boring single player, i don't know.

i love the MGS series

Mass Effect 2 i didn't play much , but Mass Effect 1 is excellent

Lol

i think Tomb Raider has the better "Adventure" feel than Uncharted, uncharted is too chaotic and not very exploring friendly, it needs a bit less gunplay and more exploration, like oniyide said, the shooting sections are much better than Tomb Raider, but Tomb Raider didn't have that much enemies and every enemy encouter was memorable (well atleast the old games )  , if Uncharted had more exploration and less "BOOOM!" and "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS EPIC!" moments then it would be perfect in my opinion.

I stopped reading/caring when you said Uncharted 2 wasn't great. I AM A FUCKING NINTENDO FANBOY AND I still thought Uncharted 2 was the best game of this generation so far.

Uncharted 2 = perfection.

Yeah mods, ban me, I called myself a fanboy.

EDIT 1: Oh yeah, and Severance, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are the highest rated games of this generation. And of all time: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Your threads are usually entertaining, but this is just attention whoring. Check your facts for once.

I'm a fanboy for crappy games then.

Completely agree with Galaxy. Although a great game, there is just no WAY that game is a 9.5 or whatever on gamerankings while NSMB Wii is a 8.9. That is just astounding to me that those scores are not flipped. Galaxy is fun through one play through and is only one player (not counting the lame 2nd player pointer thing), and NSMB has far more replay value. Once you get all the stars, there's pretty much no reason to pick it up again, while NSMB is always fun, especially with friends.

I find that most hyped up games are overrated these days. I think most people are just blinded by flashy graphics and cutscenes.

Uncharted? What on earth did people see in that game? I played it and I did NOT see the fun in the game. It was kinda fun for awhile but meh, just got repetetive, and far too many cutscenes, not to mention all that slow paced climbing. In fact the game made me sea sick from all the sporatic camera movements.

I have to say though I do love Gears, but that is mostly for the online multiplayer.
