Forums - Sales - I think it's safe to say that kinect will push the 360 above ps3..

I hope that people are not actually happy that Kinect might be selling well in the future, that's going to fuck us all in the long run, if you know what I mean.

I don't think GT5 will do that much more for the PS3 as compared to what Reach did for the 360. it's going to be impossible to judge what it's effect really is since it is releasing during one of the best sales weeks of the year. Most of those sales will be due more to the holiday season than it will be GT5.

It's going to move consoles like Halo 3 (not Reach) did.

Indeed, some people are underestimating the selling power of the GT franchise. We don't have a lot of reliable data from past GT release, the only one we do have is GT4's launch. Did it give a boost? GT4 boosted PS2's sales about 15%... up from christmas week! While other systems fell as much as 60% from the week before, GT4 actually managed to boosted PS2's sales higher and thereby giving it the best week of the year in Japan(215k in japan alone). Also consider that GT4 was the second full GT game for the system, while GT5 will be the first on PS3, and with PS2's install base already at 15m compared to PS3's current 5m in Japan. Also, Japan isn't even GT's biggest market.

I don't think anyone is saying GT5 will not sell systems. It will, it is the #1 exclusive seller on the PS systems. The disagreement is on how much it will sell. Some make very low estimate, some in the middle, and other very high. So yes, depending on how it sells some people may be underestimating it and some may be overestimating it.

GT4 did increase the PS2 sales a week after Christmas, but did other systems have a high selling exclusive release that week? No, I do not believe so; of course the other consoles will have a massive drop in sales after Christmas. The thing is the sales number for the PS2 actually went down the week of release in Americas and Others when GT4 was release in the corresponding territories. (I only did a quick check, so correct me if I made a mistake on the dates.)

GT5 is going to be the first GT game for the PS3. That in itself should give it a pretty good bump, I agree with you there. But how much will be hard to determine as it is being released during the holiday season where there is a bump in hardware sales for ever system.

Like i say, the only reliable data we have is from Japan, since video game sales tracking has been going on there for a long time(also by other trackers than VGchartz like Famitsu).  The numbers for other regions are averages made from the years total, and were clearly not correctly tracked week on week.

Also there are no other big  exclusive games for the GT5 launch week either. And i agree it will be impossible to determine what the GT5 boost exactly will be since it's a high selling(black friday) week, but the question was will it give enough of a boost to push PS3 in front of X360. Personally i think so.

I know. It's like no one remembers Skynet.

This holiday season. Look, Kinect sold 500k in america in 3 days. I don't believe move has even reached those numbers in america. If move can boost the ps3 the way it has been, kinect should smash those numbers don't you think? With black ops bundle, timed black ops exclusive content etc. The 360 should be at top this holiday don't you think?

ps I dont think gt5 will give the ps3 more than 100k boost because most gt lovers got ps3 for gt5p no? I could be wrong there we'll see i guess.

Congrats to the Kinect and it looks like it can outsell the Move (whoever doubted that?). Dude...The PS3 bubble hasn't even burst yet in Europe and Japan. It's behind the 360 in America. Theres plenty of room for the PS3 to expand and grow. GT5 will sell very well and sell PS3's in Europe like crazy.
