Don't get me wrong, I think both games are amazing, but I do feel like I derived more enjoyment from the first than the second. I replayed DF 4 or 5 times, all told... I got bored on the second play-through of 2. My brother and dad had similar experiences with the lack of re-playability of 2.
I think I worked out why: the first was based on solid gameplay mechanics, and the set-pieces fell inline with these mechanics. The second game relied on huge cinematic moments, which often times pulled away from the original's mechanics. The cinematic moments gave you that "wow" feeling during the virgin playthrough, but when you're expecting it, playing through it again, that initial blockbuster feeling is muted.
It's like epic action films - they're amazing in the cinema, and you feel a real buzz watching it the first time, but when you buy it on DVD/BD, you end up bored half way through... it's the movies that get the core elements right that you end up watching countless times.
That's my thoughts, anyways.
