At this point, I'd be more worried about whether they'll have money to make the PS4 or not, given that they don't expect profitability until 2009 (which could also mean it will come later or not at all, since we know they're pretty optimistic with their forecasts in general).

If they do make a PS4, it's going to be far less ambitious than the PS3 in terms of hardware power, they can't afford to lose billions of dollars on every console they launch.

sony has other divisions, right?

That doesn't mean they want to waste money on the gaming division. They need to plan for profitability.

If their games division can continue to give BluRay an advantage in the format war, I think the end result will justify the losses.

Does anyone know how much Sony gets for each Blu-Ray disc sold? Sony is not the only company in the Blu-Ray group, so I'm not so sure those profits will be significant enough to warrant the billions spent on the PS3. If anyone has seen any good article about this, please post the link.

ps4 is the next wii lol since sony cant do anything innovative on their own. psone= cd version of the snes, duel shock = combination snes controller + n64 controller, six axis = duel shock + wii controller. so yeah next step is to copy the wii and reintroduce it as the ps4 :O

What could "actual innovation" mean here. Lets assume it is being used referring to the PS3, as it has only been out for 1 year.

pure playful speculation here:

1) new advanced dev kits for the PSeye. This would allow any user to interact with the game environment more directly. Imagine sitting in a cockpit of a spacecraft, and through the eye- being able to push different buttons on screen just by moving your hands in the air.

2) Home surpassing all of our expectations eventually,Future plans to create an incredibly massive sandbox environment with user created content. The possibilities could be limitless enough to be called innovation.

but who knows - he's probly just BS'ing

A NEXT gen, high def version of the wii, with all of sony's first and second party developers sounds good to me.

I think the more important thing to notice is that they are currently planning for something after the PS3.

You think Nintendo and MS aren't planning their successors as we speak? Or did I misinterpret your meaning?

There's been a lot of speculation regarding whether or not Sony will make a PS4 based upon the financial difficulties the PS3 has faced this past year. I don't know that the statement if confirms the PS4 or PSP2 or what, but it sounds like Sony is planning to stay in the video game market.

That probably sounds a little silly in the sense that "Of course they're going to stay, how could you think otherwise?" but I, personally, was unsure if that's what they would do. Not that this really hard confirms it or anything.

Gotcha.

Didn't Brian Ashcraft do a spin where Xbox 360 was selling better than when PS3 40 gig was released because he couldn't find it in the store down the street?

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

People are getting it all wrong. Stringer was generally talking about Sony as a whole not just the game division which makes up about 9% of Sony. A ps4 is guaranteed. Sony have got rid of the lunatics like Kuturagi so also expect a far more realistic business model.

PS4... now with an embedded EyeToy that will capture every move of yours, heh.

I suppose you're one of those people who thought that the N64 and the Gamecube were innovative, right? Then why were they grossly outsold if innovation is the sole prerequisite for high sales?
