If the PSP2 goes Android, piracy is only going to be worse. The piracy rate is close to 97% in Asia for Android. Sony won't be able to close holes either because they don't control the OS.
Maybe. But I expect if they wen't with android it would be a modified version of android, which is entirely within the scope of the android ecosystem. It would have a new DRM scheme build into it and no doubt SONY would be constantly updating it to close new security holes. I also bet it would _not_ include the normal android marketplace.
Sony has already proven to be slow at android updates. Adding yet another layer of customization would only make it worse.
Well, id say half the phone makers are really slow on their android updates, hell, one of my android phones didn't get an update for an entire year, and it was still only and "old" update (1.5 -> 1.6 when 2.0 was already out). But you do have a point, SONY is notorious for slow updates, android or no. It might get even slower if they have to deal with the extra layer of android.
SONY needs to get a better firmware dev team or something.

I somehow don't mind that the DS sold much more than the PSP. I have both handhelds and the PSP is the clear Winner for me. Kingdom Hearts Birth by sleep, Final Fantasy Dissidia and Crisis Core blew me away. The DS Games (FF 12 Revenant Wings, Tactics Advance 2, etc) were also good games, but the PSP games with its technical advantages felt much more intense for me.
After I have finished KH BBS I will try out DQ 9. But every time I buy a Square Game for the DS I think I would rather have it for the PSP, since the storytelling could take advantage of better graphics, cutscenes and voice acting.
I might be wrong, but I think the PSP2 will also be more powerful than the 3DS. So if the 3rd-party-support is still strong with the psp2, it will be my winner. But since the next Kingdom Hearts is already heading for the 3DS I will have to buy it anyway.
Sometimes I wonder, when I see people discussing sales figures of the DS and PSP, what they would choose if the next game of their favourite franchise (KH, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, etc) would head either to PSP or DS (and they own both of them). My clear answer would be PSP. There are games like TWEWY which benefit from the DS controls, but regarding storytelling there is a huge gap in favour of the PSP. I just can't see KH BBS, FF7 CC or Dissidia for the DS.
Does this mean yoyur reply to the thread's topic is ''The PSP2 should be more powerful than the 3DS and have more/better Square games"? At least, for you, that would make it clearly better than the 3DS. But I think the OP already said that good games & good price are a given; they don't need to be mentioned. What he's asking for is for device features.
Anyway, if I make the same kind of analysis you did, the DS is the winner for me bcuz even though I like RPGs, I play a wide variety of genres & the DS demolishes the PSP in that aspect with games like Super Scribblenauts, better platformers than the PSP, and games that actually feel like portable games e.g Dragonball Origins 1 & 2. I have both systems though and the PSP's major problem to me is that it's best games, the ones I love the most, feel like console games, not portable games, a problem that the 'sleep' function really helps with. I think the 3DS & probably PSP2 will have the same problem.
