Today's movie is :-

STAR WARS EPISODE 1 : The Phantom Menace

The evil Trade Federation, led by Nute Gunray is planning to take over the peaceful world of Naboo. Jedi's Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent to confront the leaders. But not everything goes to plan. The two Jedis escape, and along with their new Gungan friend, Jar Jar Binks head to Naboo to warn Queen Amidala, but droids have already started to capture Naboo and the Queen is not safe there. Eventually they land on Tatooine, where they become friends with a young boy known as Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon is curious about the boy, and sees a bright future for him. The group must now find a way of getting to Coruscant and to finally solve this trade dispute, but there is someone else hiding in the shadows. Are the sith really extinct? Is the Queen who she really says she is? and what's so special about this young boy?

American - $431 Million

Rest Of The World - $493 Million

Fun Fact -- Only considering films since Titanic's release, even though other films have grossed higher than The Phantom Menace it still remains the highest in terms of "attendance" right behind Avatar and Titanic.

Such an awful movie.  It's just a giant mess with character you don't care about for a variety of reasons, a plot that doesn't make any sense, and just too much going on.

Also, excessive use of the word whoopee.

Ok I saw that movie in theaters when it came out and I've never seen it again but from what I remember, it was pretty epic.

I couldn't understand anything of the story. I was 9 years old and I had never seen the previous Star Wars lol

It was well below average from what i'd expect from a movie... and weirdly tried to combine "kids stuff" with "galactic political intrigue".

Which meant you had half your audience bored at any time.

Lots of dumb plot holes.... including ones they open up in future movies.

Like why doesn't Obi-Won remember the droids.

At least the story was somewhat coherent though... and that was basically it.

It was my first Star Wars movie and it changed everything for me.....

God no, Qui Gon was possibly one of the worst Jedi's in existance.  He was either doing incredibly stupid things like blindly walking into traps, setting up horribly convulated deals and taking advantage of people using his Jedi powers, or just plain being, well, stupid.

I remember my dad saying Episode 1 has become for you what Episode 4 was for us when we saw it when we were young. He showed me the original trilogy after that...
