Spot on, I live in the UK and there's at least 4 games I'll be picking up before Christmas! It's been a great year and there's plenty more to come!
While I don't disagree that Nintendo is now more focused on 3DS - which they should be, there's absolutely no credibility to the arguement that Nintendo has nothing 'big' planned for Wii. For years now Nintendo has been keeping mum on even the biggest of titles until a few months in advance (NSMB, DKCR, Kirby, Wii Party, etc) and we already know some for next year - Mario Sports, Zelda:SS!, Wii Relax, Pikmin 3, Xenoblade, (Kirby:EP in Others), which is already impressive. Come next year, Nintendo will announce more - likely at E3 for the rest of the year. Most of their major franchises are tapped now (Super Mario, Metroid & Zelda twice!). Star Fox and F-Zero are minor players (and better for 3DS). Really the only franchise that'd boost Wii sales now would be a proper Pokemon game or a Pokemon MMO, otherwise I don't think it really matters what they put on Wii, it's on it's way out. I just hope NoA gives the diehards some treats at the end (Disaster:DoC, The Last Story, Fatal Frame 4(not happening I know), and a NPC graphically updated Eternal Darkness (hey, I can dream))
However, I also expect to see the next console by holidays 2011 or early 2012 too.
I don't see any surprises here.
I've been saying since 2007 that this gen would end in 2012.
All three will show something in 2011 (probably late or at the very latest E32012) for a release in 2012 holiday, really not rocket science.
| TheSource said: Wii is trending to be a much larger software market than DS, even if you exclude bundled software its ahead by 15% over the same period. So Nintendo cares - they like $$ - and DS is already a 750 million unit * $30 (or so) software market over six years. I'm thinking DS gets to 900m-1.05b games shipped, while Wii gets to 1b to 1.2b games shipped. You can say that PS2 got to 1.55b or so, but Sony never had two sw markets of a billion units each overlapping in the way Nintendo does / has recently. |
It's not like they couldn't have. Are you implying that PS2's sales were so high that a simultaneous handheld couldn't have matched it? Nintendo's handhelds usually dominate, it was just a matter of time until they got the console side on the right track again.

To all the people mentioning lists,
I know what's coming too, but tell me honestly, does that line-up compares to what we had in past holiday seasons?
The Wii isn't at the same technical level as the HD twins, and now with their own wiimote wannabes, Nintendo has an outdated machine in their hands, more than ever.
Your assumptions would be fair if the Wii was at the same level as HD twins and getting the same amount of 3rd party support that could drive sales. Wii sales can't rely on 3rd party support, we've seen that this year.
@ nordlead
I'll pay attention to that from now on. Sorry.
I will wait until Nintendo announces their 2011 line-up and then make a decision for myself.
