Forums - Sales - why the xbox360 will be micorsofts last system

@WOW

wow, you must be really insecure about your console. You make me laugh !!! 100% failure rate??? WTF??? My console is almost a launch console and it's still perfoming nicely.

Re. sales, if any console has to worry about this it's PS3, sure it's getting  slight boost lately, but look, with price cuts, bundles, new SKU, it's still struggling to pass Xbox 360 sales.

So much inaccuracies in this thread.

Before the PS3 can be selling at a faster rate the PS3 needs to outsell the 360 for a month.

PS3 doesnt stand a chance to take the lead over the 360 in 2008. 360 will have an 8 million+ lead at the end of 2007. PS3 will need to beat the 360 by 700,000 per month on average to overtake the 360 by the end of 2008. Not likely.

MS plans to be profitable during Fiscal Year 2008 which started on July 1st. The 1st quarter ended September 30th. That quarter was in the black and certainly the quarter with the highest software sales will easily be in the black. It is likly that the 360 is profitable going forward. Also 360 hardware is profitable. What killed it earlier this year were repair costs. Since MS has since prepaid for any additional RROD costs the repairs wont drag on profits. Reason MS isnt talking about being in the black this quarter is two fold. The quarter isnt over and earnings report isnt until late January. They will be profitable and also have the room to signifigantly drop 360 price right before GTA IV comes out. After all in over 2 years they have only dropped the price of the 360 on $20, $50 and $30 dollars on the Arcade, Premium and Elite models.

3rd party support is secured. Since the 360 will lead at the end of 2008 and reality 2009 as well. 3rd parties love the sales on 360 and not until the PS3 has a signifigant lead on the 360 will they switch. I doubt this ever happens.

In many ways Sony has let the 360 sit pretty with thier mistakes. It is certain MS planned to drop the price of the 360 sooner and more signifigant then they have. They can thank Sony poor PS3 execution for allowing MS to wait.

Libraries sell systems not individual games

I had a very hard time getting through that, but I doubt thats the case.

The failure rate is horrendous (its actually 100% of all systems they sold before about August, not 33%, thats just what they average per what ever length of time they record that info) but the system has had some killer games released on it.

Your assumption that Microsoft doesnt make money off 3rd party games is incorrect too, they have a very nice percentage guaranteed per game sold on their system. Its not as good as lets say Halo 3, which temporarily pushed them into the Black (amazing how they havnt talked about their money since then uh?) but its still good.

Now the assumption that the PS3 will pass the 360 next year is probably correct, the biggest of the big guns are being pulled next year for the PS3 and most of them are first party, its going to be a phenomenal year for them, but that doesnt mean the 360 cant continue to do well enough that they can start to recoup losses.

Im not sure why the 360 hasnt been refined enough to start turning profit on each unit, unlike the PS3 which is now just shy of breaking even and will most definitely next year start turning one on each system with the 45nm chips that are being developed for it. Maybe the fix they had to do to kill the Red Ring of Death is so drastic that they have to start from scratch for their refinement, I dont know. But to say that they wont be able to start by next year is probably foolish.

If anything will come of their failure to make a dependable system it will be when all those thousands if not hundreds of thousands of 360 owners next year get their red ring and see Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Home, Metal Gear Solid 4 and maybe Final Fantasy XIII will buy a PS3 and end up sticking with the system.

I dont know if someone has said this, but I think the big thing that everyone should be looking for is when the PS3 hits 299 a unit. I think thats about right for people that are still plugging in their Playstation 2's to start buying the PS3, and Ive heard somewhere that 120,000,000 people as an installed user base is a big deal...

this thread is so full of so much ewwwwwwwwww.

Have you actually done the math? It would take wii sales for ps3 to overtake 360 next year.

Also 360 is the one closer to breaking profit not ps3.

So they are going to just hand in their 360s once it RROD and grab a ps3........right..

Yea well watch the 360 and wii do it first faster, and doesnt kill the company doing it

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Class, this is a great example of a grammatical train wreck. Thanks for sharing, WOW!

My head was hurting by the end of the second sentence.

I would recommend you cracking open an Engrish book and jump in.

Drop your PS3 controller and start studying, son.

While I think that the 360 has more or less reached it's potential I would say that the ps3 can only get better at this point. I estimate the ps3 will do at least 12 million sales in the next fiscal year. So by mid to late 2009 the ps3 will likely surpass its worldwide numbers

yes possibly, but sales need to pick up if thats to happen. Around 300k a month start january it needs to beat the 360 in order to take the lead by very late 09.

Potential in sales.........possibly, i would guess no because sales generally pick up even more later in consoles lives when they are cheaper......look at the ps2

the xbox360 may be in second now but it will finish in last. Mircosoft is loseing money right now on core system and the regular but they are makeing money on the elite. they are also loseing on on the HDDVD dirve. now most companies make this money up by selling software. Sence most of mircosofts games are 3rd party Mircosoft isnt makeing egounh games of their own to make this money up. The red ring of death is makeing it so microsoft is having to do repeirs for free. Senice the xbox360 is at a 33% failure rate they are loseing alot of money on this. Mirosoft had to spend 20m fixing 360s and they are still failing. from june to now 17 shippments of xbox360s have been called back. this is a result of them starting productoin 69 days before the lunach. Now Microsoft for the last 5 years has been loseing money but Mircosfot stated that thier gameing divsoin would be porifitable in 2008. in 2008 there is a high chance of the PS3 passing the 360 wicth then 3rd party devolpers will support the PS3 and not the 360. this will result in the PS3 getting more games and makeing more people buying a ps3 insted of a 360. No 3rd party support will lead to the downfall of the xbox. this is the same thing that happened to the gamecube. the only resoin nintendo is still alive is from the NES,SNES and N64. If we look back a gen the xbox didnt do very good. let me remind you it only beat the gamecube by 2m units. Now everyone is saying that Xbox360 has better games than Ps3 and wii. Now lets take a look back a year and a half ago on june 2006.bback then the xbox360 had no good games. Now it does so the Ps3 is moveing at a faster rate as the 360 is the only thing is the 360 had a years start so in the long run the ps3 will have better games than the 360. this all depends on the 360s slaes and at the rate the 360 is selling now it is doomed. now this is all a predictoin but this is possible that it might happen and end up as the dreamcast. like i said it all depends on the 360s sales

This is pretty much the worst post I have ever seen. The only reasone nintendo is alive is because of NES, SNES and N64? Are you kidding???? Was that a joke I was suppose to laugh at???? Here are some reasons Nintendo is still around:

1.) The OWN the handheld market now and for the past 15 years. They have never had a competitor that has lasted more than one generation.

2.) They didn't use the loss leader strategy that Sony uses. In case you don't know what that means,(and I guess you probably don't) Nintendo decided to sell the gamecube at a profit so they would be profitable selling 10 million, 25 million, or even 100 million because each console makes a profit.

Sony's strategy requires them to be the leader and sell 100 million consoles to make a profit.

3.) They own Mario and Zelda and all their other franchises.

Conveniently ignore the fact that not only did the GC make money it made a lot of money. The reason Nintendo still is alive is because they are excellent at making money, something all other companies have seemed to struggle with in this market.

well i also think the xbox is dying and then sega will try to hop on the hardware market again and make a console that will be selling better than the xbox 360

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!
