Actually, this decade is 9 years and 9 months old. We have 3 months left before we start a new decade.

The first year of the modern calendar started as year 1, not year 0. New milleniums work the same way.

Then how come there was a big celebration for the coming of the 21st century with 2000, the new decade, and no party whatsoever with 2001?

I think I understand. If we're counting finite objects, we start with 1, and if we count something continuous like time we start at .000001

And since years are finite, we start with 1. Am I right?
