The graphics and presentation beats anything we've seen in this gen far. So I am extremely impressed even if it's an on-rails scene.

lol you speak the truth uncharted 3 is gonna have its work cut out for it.

I don't think I could even handle this much awesomeness for more than 30 minutes per gaming session.

I have seen more scripted events in this ten minutes than in a whole other game.

EDIT: That's obviously a good thing

Lots of scripted events is a good thing? Now that's a first.

You only have to look as far as Uncharted 2 to see how incredible a game full of playable scripted events can be.

Well it pales compared to open world games and I haven't played Uncharted 2 yet, only about 1/4th of Unchated.

Uncharted 1 didn't but I hope Uncharted 2 will change my mind a bit about scripted events. I don't like them but sometimes they're a necessary evil (all games have scripts to some extent)

In this Bioshock Infinity demo I can't see the obvious good about them.

Was it really only me and Disolitude who thought this looked on-rails?

It does look on-rails. Which makes it all the more impressive that it isn't on-rails.

Well, it definitely looks good, but GoTY worthy? Really? You don't seem to understand what that means. The best game of the whole year? Full 12 months, dude.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

I am playing God of War 3 right now...and I have to say that scripted events are the best thing in that game so far.

The actual gameplay is a little too meat and potatoes (simple button mashing), and boss fights become almost DDR like with quick time events, but the background scripted events in the first hour of playing the game are really good.

I strongly doubt that. The game looks fantastic though, that's for sure.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Sure.

It looks on-rails because it is so fantastically designed. It makes people think that design of that quality would only be possible in an on-rails game. But the game isn't on-rails.

Yeah I know it isn't on rails because else we would have heard that from the people getting the hands-on behind closed doors in August.

But what if the movement and camera control is very limited? Like they could make the default walking very slow, and then force you forward by literally push you forward when they decide to. Similar to on-rails games where the pacing and camera switches between standing still - slow walk - fast walk - run/fall. In that gameplay it seemed like the player was pushed off ledges and in and out of rooms several times and he even seemed to auto-run a few times (yikes)! Further, the camera control seemed slow, just like in cut-scenes of other games where you can look around freely but very slowly and then scripts control all the fast camera pans to where they want you to watch.

Bear in mind that this is being played by somebody who is paid to show off the game. He wants it to look as impressive as possible. That means walking slowly, looking around you slowly, following along and taking the perfect path, never hesitating in movement or combat...

We'll have to wait and see just how much of that was actually controlled by the player, but I get the impression that it was the large majority.
