I read the article and thought it was pretty baseless. I really enjoyed the game. I didn't have any objections to the way they portrayed Samus. Heaven forbid she actually has a feminine disposition to certain situations and events. How dare they give her a desire to be part of a family. After all, she was only raised by an advaced alien race with limited exposure to normal human relationships. Her voice sounds detached because... ummm she is feeling detached from her past. Ever talk to someone who's been involved in a seriously negative event in the past? They usually don't sound enthusiastic when retelling their story.
Samus still felt like a total badass to me. Especially once the upgrades started stacking on. She felt fast and nimble. I didn't struggle with the controls or the switching perspectives. It was fun to see a fleshed out story for Samus, even if it was a bit melodramatic. Next time Nintendo, let's focus on Samus' upbringing and history with the chozo. That'd be a cool backstory.
I realize it's an opinion piece, but as for me, I have no objections... lady.
