Forums - Sony - Why are Move games selling so poor?

Legend, no wander its not pushing thousands of console at the moment. Only the current PS3 userbase and informed gamers are aware of it. Sony is just starting to market it and they also expect word of mouth to reach non PS3 gamer.

But can we at least wait a week before we say it's a failure?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

no we can't because then we can't say it's a failure any more

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

You know this is a fail thread when a real analyst (TheSource) jumps in and basically says:

According to Amazon, right now... World of Warcraft Cataclysm is currently outselling Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Blur on the PS3 is outselling Alan Wake.

It's also worth noting that the PS Move Starter Pack is also outselling the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.

So should we really look at Amazon for sales figures? Really?

Oh wait. Legend11 thread? Riiiiiiiiiiiiight... I need not say anything else.

Because Amazon is not a reliable source for sales? It could well be that people bought Move from Amazon and wanted to go into a game store to buy games.

lol, I didn't know the move was even out yet....is it any good? Can't say it made much of a splash in the casual world, or I woulda heard about it. Maybe it's because I'm in America. :P

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

According to Malstrom:

"This is why Move and Kinect are not going to amount more than curiosities to gadgeteers. In order for Move and Kinect to succeed, they must sell to Sean Malstrom. These people do not want to sell to me. If they cannot get to me, who does like games, how are they going to get to people who do not like games? How are they going to get to the housewife? Or to grandpa? You cannot get to the non-gamers until you get to the former-gamers."

"Gaming is the unexplored continent. People are not going to get excited to pay more money to go to a place (the Wii experience) that we have been before."

I was a "former gamer" (my last console was a SNES) and now I have only a Wii, so I can understand perfectly Malstrom's opinion.

Agreed. Much of the success from the Wii comes from the former gamers (and there are lots of them out there). This is proven by the success of old school type games like NSMB Wii, Mario Kart, Wii Sports (like a modern day pong), Wii Play, and more coming out like DKC and Kirby. I was starting to drift into this "former gamer" category as well, as fewer and fewer games were coming out that interested me, while I found myself playing more older games.

I don't see the Move really targetting former gamers, which are a BIG part of the Wii's audience, if not the biggest. Instead I see more complexity with the awkward looking controller and 1:1 motion. The average consumer wants simplicity in their games, they do not want more complexity.

Most of the initial Move games will end up selling like the typical generic third party Wii game, which is to say modest at best, but since made on a small budget (any game with an MSRP of $40 or less is a budget game) won't be big losers if they don't manage a small profit.
