Forums - Nintendo - Why is Wii Music considered such a bad game?

Wasn't around during it's launch, and the game seems fine to me. Explain.

Above: still the best game of the year.

The limited soundtrack and the childish nature of it.

Still an excellent game to me. Over 100 hours logged into it. O_O

Doesn't seem motive enough for the bash on it, neither the motive for it's bad sales. On this point, could someone tell me why it sold so bad (relatively)?

Not enough songs, and mostly fiddling around, was not something the mainstream was interested in.

Also, it's hated by the gaming community more for the 2008 E3 conference more than any actual merit of the game.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I never understood it...

People were expecting something for "Hardcore Gamers" at E3 2008 and Nintendo brought this out instead.  This game was the last one shown during their presentation and the focus of much backlash.  The game may actually be very good and considered a success if not for the weight it had thrust upon its shoulders.

--On a side note, how important is "winning E3"?  Microsoft lost and immediately started selling large amounts of 360's.  Nintendo lost in 2008 and outsold its competitors by a fair margin, that year.  Does E3 mean anything to anybody except us?  Our pick for winner and loser doesn't seem to have much effect on anything.

it's because when when nintendo showed us people doing yoga in e3 2007, we thought we saw the last of nintendo pushing  LCD casual games. This was the boiling point for some nintendo fans when this happened and some felt shafted. I remember the reginator saying " we got animal crossing" at the end as if he could pull off  saying that it would appease the hardcore as much as a new zelda or F-zero. I still haven't played it, but from what I heard, its more like a toy than an actual game. I still need to get a bunch of games for my wii but considering how I finally ordered super mario galaxy 2 ($17 on amazon new :) ) it will be a long time before I even consider playing wii music.

Wii Music is not really a bad game. It sold actually well. But it failed to move Wii units on the Holiday season which in turn hurt Nintendo's console and they are now working to recover.

Wii Music failed to offer true music style of gameplay. and the fact that you never failed in the game and you can create almost any band to play a not so good selection of songs killed it.

I had hopes for the game though, but later on I was only impressed by the drums, so I decided to skip it and I am not regretting it

Well a new system would push sales anyway, as we saw from the DS Lite and PS3 Slim.

But you're right that the pick for winners and losers doesn't matter, not just for E3, but for a gaming in general. Even if we pick the winner, it was just a lucky guess, not that we made it happen.

As others have said Wii Music isn't a bad game at all. I think Nintendo didn't do a good job of fully explaining what it was though. It isn't a music game similar to Guitar Hero or Rockband and I think people thought it might be. Wii Music is music manipulator instead of a rhythm game but even understanding that the song library leaves a lot to be desired. They should have at least filled it up with Nintendo game songs if they weren't going to go for more current songs. The Legend of Zelda song is favorite one to play. Some  "instruments" work better then others though.

I've had fun with it. The first night I brought it home I had the family try it out and they had fun. In party settings it's fun. Solo it's something I put in when I have the desire to mess around with it. I can't play Guitar Hero because I can't get my fingers to move the way they need to in order to hit the buttons. Frustrating every time I try (and I want to play GH) so I never got it into. This as a welcome change as I just had to simulate the action. The idea of the game is interesting but maybe it was a bit much for people. The game did sell a few million I think so it isn't like it bombed. Just didn't do NIntendo's normal numbers. Though I'd agree it did the weakest out of the "Wii" titled series.

It isn't horrible though and those that say that aren't being fair to the game or what Nintendo was actually attempting.

I would like to see Nintendo go back to it with a sequel. With Motion Plus and expanding and refining what they did it could be great.
