I remember shortly after the the holiday season the ps3 had closed the gap to about 5.5 million that had dropped to about 5 million not too long ago but since the release of the slim xbox the xbox has since re-closed some of that widening gap so that we are now back to square one this year

with the advent of halo reach being very popular and getting great reviews and with it having great longevity through multiplayer it will sell well into the holidays.

not only that but with kinect releasing in november ( i think) theres no way that xbox will sell any worse than its doing now

kinect adventures already has over 100k pre-orders with 8 weeks to go and if thats indicative of sales of kinect (which it should be) then i feel that between the hype of "no controller" and advertising there microsoft will dominate christmas.

i would like to say move will counter it but looking at the pre order for sports champions it hasnt even hit 50k with less than a week to go

now i'll probly have GT5 thrown at me but im not so sure it will make the sales bump everyone assumes it will im sure it will sell well and make a thrum in sales but i just dont think it has the power alone to push ps3 over 360 this year. 

i'm sad to admit it but i just dont see how it could beat 360 this year

next year there will be a huge amount of high profile games (killzone 3, twisted metal, infamous 2, resistance 3) with move taking a stronger hold but i guess this year we'll have to give it to xbox.

360's got this year under wraps pretty much, especially in US. The 360's holidays though won't far outpace PS3's sales and come 2011 we will see PS3 begin to outpace 360 again and then...price drops from Sony either March or September if at all depending on whether or not Sony will wait for the real Slim PS3 to drop price. I don't see MS dropping price a year after their Slim, although it's very possible given the fact that they haven't had a real price drop in a while.

Overall it'll just go back and forth with the 360 staying ahead of total PS3 sales unless 360 get's a price cut next year.

well i think after the hype dies down around kinect and move gets a greater hold with halo gone and only gears and fable next year vs the HUGE amount of ps3 games comming next year i think we will see the gap shrink again but for now 360 has this year i feel

I'm still curious to see the bump from GT5.

At this rate, the 360 taking annual sales seems very likely.

I doubt the gap will shink significantly until Sony does another price cut.

Even if 360 loses momentum next year, it should be able to maintain equal sales to the PS3.

The Slim effect and the Reach effect will be gone by the Holiday everywhere besides for America. Yes the 360 should have big #'s in America but I think Others and Japan P.S.3 #'S can take the 2nd spot. 

yes but your forgetting kinect which is building huge numbers with 2 months to go so while slim and reach may die down within a month it will just be another reason to pick up an xbox with the hype of kinect come november

though wii will surely dominate as always

I would be surprise if Sony takes another price drop next year.  Fans love to throw this out there but I believe Sony would like to make a profit and not continue to give it away just to gain market share.  At this point, the game is over, The Wii won, MS and Sony can fight for the scraps.  Even if Sony was able to close the gap, it probably would take another 3 to 5 years and everyone will be playing the next hotness from the two companies to even care.
