Forums - Sony - I'm ticked off with 2K and this is why: related to Mafia2

I don't know what to say...............

Apparently 2K thinks the PS3 can only run the same grass as the N64, lol.  Not buying the game now.

does not surprise me. for them to spend the extra to optimize it beyond what you see would require greater costs that eat into profits. if the ps3 had the wiis base no doubt it would be optimized for that console. however the posibility of just a bit more sales on the PS3 vs the 360 does not warrant the extra effort and cost to program. this is always a risk when you go out on your own. see apple during the powerpc days as a prime example when the cost was sunk into it, ppc native apps could smoke the x86 equivalent even at multiple clock speeds slower. this lead to a few really great apps and some awesome exclusive software that drove hardware sales most of the other ports were just acceptable to tolerable. now with x86 all that is changing fewer must have custom apps but more apps that are the same level with fewer glitches. sony thought they would rule just like last gen... every one thought they would so the gamble on exotic architecture just like the gen before did not seem like much of a gamble. though its a small consolation games customized for your hardware have the potential to be amazing, its just your going to have to put up with crappy ports... reminds me of the xbox last gen

edit thoughts on demo... the no jumping thing sucks .. i felt the visuals were adequate but not great, should have been multiplayer. however i still find myself coming back so im keeping on my list... im a sucker for sandbox games
other thoughts.... really what should be happing is these maps should be gone over with a fine tooth comb to look amazing, and then sell use of the maps to other games after this one has been out six months, maybe a zombie game or just a different story, by letting the same map be used by multiple devs the could cut costs and be moved to invest more initially to bust its longevity, ive felt this since crackdown .. the first crackdown

Question: Why did Sony make the PS3 so quiet?

Answer: So they can hear the fans whining.

Get over yourselves people.

Tease.

I know what you mean, man. I played the demo and found the final build to be quite lack-luster. I was shocked because I thought," hmm, the game is getting exclusive DLC for the PS3, so it should look amazing on it right?" Apparently, I was wrong. I will be getting this game a year and a half after it releases or when it becomes dirt cheap. How ridiculous of them to think we can be swayed by just DLC alone and not finish the job at all.

i wasnt going to buy mafia 2 because i just had to buy lbp2, now im happy that im not getting it. they had me going witht he porn collection, but they just lost another customer!

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

The next thing we are going to see in this thread are people questioning why they can't make the game as visually stunning as Naughty Dog or Santa Monica. People comparing first party efforts to third party efforts are delusional, you can't develop an engine tailored for the strengths of homogeneous (PC, X360) and heterogeneous (PS3) architectures, with their differences in graphics power.

What is haunting the PS3 in multiplats is it's lack of graphics power, due to a less than optimal graphics chip. You can extract more graphics power from the SPUs, but 99% of the third partys aren't going to do so, because of a cost/benefit analysis.

i tried the demo i thought the game was pretty good, actually looks quite good also.

shame it dont have the same grass as 360 version but overall its gonna be the same game, i dont belive what the 2k rep said anyways, its obviously a port thats not been optomised but thats the way it goes.

another thing that ppl keep mentioning is that we are 3-4 years in and some devs still dont code for ps3 properly, what u av to remeber is that games like these are usually in development for years

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

or you can miss on on fun game play just because its not as  good looking on your system of choice, and the developers will move on to other games, and put less money towards projects for your console after noting the sales

more people buy it hopefully a better product next time due to a higher budget. fewer  it may get canceled or it may be come an exclusive to the ecosystem that supports it if there are enough sells there... or they will just continue to make ports this is the most likely option
