Forums - Sony - What does PS3 need to do to Comeback?

Move in September, 160/320 price cuts in October, GT5 in November shall keep the momentum going nicely.

Good post, agree completely.  Sony is just going to have to realize that MS bringing the 360slim out is stepping up their game, and if Sony doesn't do something to counter-act that, then the P3 will become unprofitable within a year or so as developer support moves to the 360.  I think that a $50 price cut is waranted and will serve the PS3 well.  Remember this is a long-term thing, not a sprint.  Sony still has the opportunity to make profit from the PS3 but they need to ensure that they will be in a position to even do that.

haha, umm no. Sony will not become unprofitable now that they have reached profitablility unless they drop the current sku's to $200, which they will not do.

And No, they will not loose developer support at this point. E3 proved that Sony is actually going after more 3rd party exclusive deals than Microsoft.... is this a joke?

To ship 15 million units in the Fiscal and crush Xbox they need to drop the price to $250 in September. And they will.

no they wont, I actually dont even doubt the ps3 is in reality outselling the 360 when it comes to shipments right now..I mean I still don't believe there are over 2 million ps3's on store shelves.

Look,  in order for profitability to be maintained, Sony is going to have to keep up a certain level of new games coming out and that requires a certain level of dev support.  Now if the 360 eclipsed the Ps3's sales for say a year or so, then this would be thought of as a more permanent thing, and you'd see a massive drop off in new games for the PS3 as developers would just prefer to use the 360/wii.

So, in other words they have profitability now, but that is no guarantee for the future and it becomes increasingly doubtful if Sony can't get the numbers above a certain level eventually.

So, keep in mind that I basically said that dev support would be lost if this happens for an extended period of time, and mentioned a year in so doing.    No joke post, but it sounds like you didnt understand.

They are doing just fine....and there line up is looking solid even before GC and TGS

And GC will give a nice idea as to how their future plans will go

just watch microsoft because its too late for them now to outsell 360 in its lifetime

Because nothing will ever change in what could potentially be another 5 years. >_>

To answer the question: Sony will just have to wait awhile?

I survived the Apocalyps3

IF your thread title didn't have a "what" and "do" in it this would be a more interesting thread.

Anyway On topic PS3 has made a comeback already, does it need to make more, I don't think so, the aim should be to squeeze profit out of the PS3 now.

Because 3rd Party minds are set in this gen now, most "big" games are going to PS3 and Xbox 360.

The PS3 has been outselling the X360 consistently almost all year and now there's a price cut/remodel which gives the 360 a BOOST (read: BOOST) which still hasn't leveled off. Sony also hasn't done anything to counter it yet. What makes you so sure that the events of a few weeks in a bloody 10 year life cycle will somehow change everything?

I survived the Apocalyps3

I don't think Sony needs to do anything at the moment PS3 sales are doing rather well despite the 360s models being released,  and as someone said in a thread when I think Sony Posted a profit(I think) that this holiday season is looking to be very good for Sony. with the PS move & nav, GT5, and LBP, and price cuts/bundles will only help boost Sony Software and Hardware.

Sony is already looking to have a killer 2011, so just wait out the last couple months and then bring the pain. I think we will see a $199 PS3 next year

Musts: $50 Price Cut and bring 160-320gb models(including White 160gb model) to America and Others

Not needed but would help: announce Resistance 3 and ICO and SOTC HD, Splinter Cell Trilogy HD, Prince of Persia Trilogy HD

This and also an entry level Move bundle at no more than $330, heavy GT5 bundling, good advertising and intelligent timing of big games releases.
