I hope that love turns into some great games, I really want the 3DS to succeed. Just show me the actual launch lineup, a price and a release date so I can start getting appropriatly excited.
It's cool that EA's backing this. All I need is a price and then I'm sold (see what I did there?)

Probably more the second part and some of the first part than the other way around. In any case it does bode well for the future if Nintendo has released DS -> Wii that means -> 3DS will get the best launch treatment which hopefully means that if the 3DS does great -> Next generation Wii will have a start worthy of the name as well, if not better as western publishers are stronger with home consoles than they ever were with handhelds.

You guys don't understand at all why he is happy.
EA boss is seeing completly new platform not saturated with previous releases of fifa, nhls, madden, etc (ok you can use DS versions but those won't have 3D).
Similarly other companies - just look at how much of initial lineup is remakes of older titles with 3d support.
IMHO good games will be as rare as on DS/PSP and most of them will be Japanise made while western 3rd parties flood it with typical low quality ports of famous ips.

I understand why publishers tend to get excited about new console generations, and I wouldn’t say that his enthusiasm is entirely fake, but I’m also aware that many publishers (including EA) spent (essentially) 4 consecutive years talking about how they failed to hit their projections for profit or revenue because they failed to anticipate the success of the Nintendo DS and Wii.
Regardless of the industry, a lot of executives make decisions based on whether the reasoning can be justified if they make a mistake. This is where the old standbys of "Nobody got fired for hiring IBM" in the 1980s and "Nobody got fired for buying Microsoft" in the 1990s were formed. At this point in time it would be difficult/impossible for a publisher to justify not heavily supporting the 3DS; and if/when the 3DS is successful it will be difficult/impossible for a publisher to justify not heavily supporting Nintendo’s next console.

The reason for his, and every other publisher's happiness is the fact that the 3DS will attract older people which gives the 3DS even more success in terms of SW sales.
