Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Official Metroid Other M Thread

I have to say, there's a really random plot hole element in this game... It really made me laugh.

*Spoilers*

So you finish battling Ridley, and you're wondering about the Deleter... and all of a sudden you see a Galactic Federation unit walking into the elevator. You follow him all the way into Section 1 and into the BioLab, where you meet Ms. Bergman. You two have a little chat about what's really going on, and afterwards...

...you leave her behind.

What?! Did you just forget about the potential assassin you were trailing in that very room, telling her to "stay in here and be safe."? I can't believe she just walked out and totally forgot about the very person she was trailing. Talk about short term memory loss.

Well, I'm a long time Metroid fan, played it since NES days and have had pretty much every metroid game, even Hunters Pinball.

I damn sure appreciate the current characterization of Samus, because now she's an actual character in which I see some similarities and can realistically comprehend some of the motives behind her actions.

To me, Other M is being a pure Metroid experience, overhauled with the deeper portrayal of Samus. And since Other M is supposed to be a bridge-story between the events of Super Metroid and Fusion, without Prime in between as well, there hasn't been a scene or character portrayal so far that feels out of line.

Probably the majority of long time fans don't like the current direction, but to me, it's been an amazing experience so far, even rivaling the experience that I had the first time I played Prime on the GC.

Pure Metriod experience?  A warrior that saved the universe is moody emo cry baby.

No this is not metriod.  And "spoilers below"

It's a military conspiracy   wow how imaginative a plot thats never been used in hundreds of movies and stories

To me it's being a pure Metroid experience, I've been having the same feelings about the gameplay and exploration that I had with Super Metroid the first time that I played it on the SNES.

To you it may not be, but alas, you can't speak for me

The story may be a bit cliché at this point, but it's well executed, and that's just an added bonus for an already good Metroid experience.

Once again, this is also from a long time Metroid fan. Unlike some of you, who have said that only newcomers to the series are the ones to only appreciate Other M and long time fans hate it, to me it's the contrary.

I won't still rate Other M, not until I finish it, but it's easily sitting in my Top 3 so far.

Sorry I didn't want to speak for you

I should add IMHO,

But if I had to have a game with bad acting and story, they should leave that stuff out  addition by subtraction

No problem there, it's just that I've seen a lot of posts in this thread, and many others, claiming that this Metroid is not sitting well with all long time fans. That's leaving me a bit sad, since there are some of us who're liking it.

But I do agree with you in a point. As much as I'm loving this new portrayal of Samus and of the Metroid series, I think that they'll go back to the previous formula for the next Metroid game, mainly because of the fan backlash.

This is a similar scenario to what happened with Wind Waker and it's art-style, and they did go back to a more Ocarina of Time look to console Zelda games, because of the backlash. I expect the same to happen to Metroid.

I sometimes wonder if nintendo is dumb or blind

Games like NSMBwii sells boatloads yet they ignore that for 2 gens of consoles.

It does not make sense to me.  Its like saying hmmm sidescrolling mario sells 10's of millions of copies lets not make it and just stick with 3d mario.  I love Galaxy and Galaxy 2 but ninty seems clueless.  or the developers are in charge and tell the president what to do.

I shouldn't complain about metriod considering we had the superb classic Prime.

God the story IS a mess.

But the gameplay is good enough to keep me going so far.

Looks like I was wrong

How far are you?

6 hours in.

My biggest problem so far is that I can't connect to Samus, thats hampering my enjoyment of the core storyline which actually isn't too bad.

But the gameplay is very cool though, a nice mix.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Well, the way I see it is that, with all the success that their main series have, they like to indulge in a few risk and chances in some entries, to see how the general public reacts.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but in the cases that it doesn't work, they can always go back to the original formula for their main series, because they know that it would still be amazing today.

It's not just Nintendo. Rockstar took the winning GTA formula and totally dumbed it down for the DS, for one.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

In Metroid's case its not Nintendo ignoring what works, though. I think that Metroid simply may have a ceiling of appeal that sits at 3 million sales or thereabouts, at least Metroid as we know it. Nintendo's tampering with the formula to try to get more out of it because the core game as we know it is unsatisfying for them.

If anything they should take a leaf from their own treatment of Fire Emblem and just designate Metroid an enthusiast series and stop experimenting with mass appeal. Then we could see some interesting stuff.

A dedicated Metroid team would help (or at least flesh out SPD so they don't need help to work on consoles...)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think Nintendo should take risks but do not ignore a game like sidescrolling mario thru the N64 and gamecube gens

It's bad business  The ds mario has sold 22 mil and nsmbwii 15 mil in less than a year it shows gamers want that

thats a  good Idea

But sakamoto can't write the dialog or story.  He is not good at it.

Retro would be good IMHO

well, just beat it and I can gladdly say that this game was made for an idiot like me. I loved spaming the beam and killing enemies. I loved the boss fights. I thought the cutscenes were the best iv'e seen on my wii. It's was action packed from begining to end, but there's one thing I never got.

WHO was the Deleter???

Do people not pay attention?  Or do they just not know how to deduce it lol lets see the deleter killed the guy in the snow area, killed the guy in the lava then after Samus left MB alone he attacked her... which she smiled... and then later you find a dead body there... that was the deleter lol

That is the most logical explanation. Though, what if the deleter was Anthony? or even Adam? What if Adams is still alive with those metroids.

Why else would he be running around in the shadows and then go attack MB? As for Anthony you see the Deleter and he never has a big pack on his back for the plasma gun and you never see Anthony without it.

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
