But why? Metroid hasn't really been a survival game so much as a "go in and kill everything" game since the SNES.

Like i said before, part of the appeal of the game to me is the idea of finding these things that help you survive and navigate through a world that's trying to kill you. Part of what was harmful to Metroid Fusion was that they randomly unlocked power-ups that they just gave you.

Randomly unlocked powerups? Didn't we have to kill X parasites to get them?

More, though

You do remember that Fusion outsold Super, right? If sales are any indicator of consumer satisfaction, that mode of Metroid is a-okay

Yes, those i enjoyed, but there were also ones where Adam just said "we have an upgrade for you," that really felt out of place.

Outsold Super, though? Damn, Super really underperformed for its time and platform. It came late in the SNES' life, and Fusion was relatively early in the GBA, and had the burden of being overshadowed by the awesomeness of Metroid Prime

If anything, Super Metroid had randomly unlocked power ups. You'd just be exploring Zebes, find a suspicious corridor and red door, then BAM, bad ass power up added to your arsenal.

There was always a reason behind the power ups in Fusion. Adam was never like "lol here's some power up dont know wat it is but go get it!" It was always more like "The SA-X is on your ass, SUPER MISSILES, STAT!" and then doors and corridors would get wrecked as the SA-X would actively try to stop Samus from becoming more powerful.

I don't think so. The Federation upgrades highlighted the fact that Samus was severly weakened by the loss of her power suit, and that she could not survive on her own. For me, it is part of what made Fusion such a tense, harrowing, and engaging experinece. There is also the fact that Samus eventually got hold of several upgrades she was not intended to, which harkens back to the lone explorer theme, and acts as a powerful reminder of Samus abilities in that regard.

What happens in Other M is not the exact same thing, mind you, but I'm sure it will be well incorporated and thought out considering the series history and the effort that so obviously went into this game.

I saw the commercial last night during WWE RAW.

Prime was a shoot everything that MOVES in sight game don't lie. Most enemies were ridiculously stupid and just flew around. I never felt like I was trying to survive, more like explore the awesome world they made for us. Combat was extremely lack luster in the Prime Series, but the exploration was fun. (I liked 3 best overall, but Prime one would have been the best if it didnt have such a lame begging and  tedious backtracking.) I personally am not getting this game though, I dont like the idea of the controls, in my opinion, Its a fail. I like how they are giving us something new, but they should have made it so you run around with your nunchucks joystick, and press C to go into the Visor Mode thing.

Well, most Metroid games are more about exploration than action. So if you felt that way that means Retro did a good job with the series  =p

I don't know about the controls, for the videos I've seen it's more action oriented so you must react quickly, which I think is easier to press the D-Pad than moving the joystick.

Man, it's getting an 80/100 scale so far.., anyone guessing it can hold the score up?

I thought it would be higher, but I'm not going to worry about it.  I already pre-ordered.  Besides, it is a Metroid game from Nintendo.  What's not to like?
