Forums - General Discussion - Losing Faith in Humanity...

Oh the worlds not perfect but overall humanity isn't bad. People just seem to focus on the bad things, there are countless acts of compassion, empathy and kindness that happen. Each one of them is an amazing testament to humanity in my opinion.

Well those kind of things tend to bring me down too.

Hoewever things are  much better today than they were in the past. Just watch an episode of Mad Men. That show takes place in the '60s, and it's amazing how much the world has changed in just 50 years. I mean today people can't get away with the racism or misogyny they could back then. And I'm pretty sure that 50 years from now people won't be able to get away with the rampant homophobia that is so socially acceptable today.

Be thankfull you live in the UK and not in some third world middeleaster/african wasteland. Heck, I live in an eastern country not very far away from yours and things are significantly worse off here.

Human society has followed a progressive trend (with some exceptions) throughout history, so just try your best to be exactly the opposite of everything you think is wrong with this small-minded world we live in.

P.S.: If you're copying Spock's haircut you shouldn't be surprised if you become the victim of a hairist attack.

I would'nt say that homophobia is rampant. It's 100 times better than it used to be. Nobody really cares if a person is gay anymore. lol

I m a LOT more sicked of people dying, having desease, not having food, sleeping in the street and the overall "unfair" aspect of life than some people being racist ...

actually that more comes about from the overall hate that people give to the unfortunate.

everyday WalMart throws away hundreds of thousands of dollars of food because of a power failure that lasted 2 hours because its becomes an insurance write-off rather then maybe donating that food since there is nothing wrong with it. (And yes this is true) There is enough food thrown away jsut by WalMart a year that could feed every homeless or poor citizen in the USA for years.

Its the problem of greed from corporations and poorly aimed hate towards the poor and unfortunate. People can help other people get food and shelter. The only problem is there isnt enough people willing to do so. Yes, it is unfair, but the people not willing to donate time or money to help are greedy, stuck-up, pieces of trash that are made up of the older generation (see my other post).

the question i have is this, what is worse, having a company waste tons of money/food using it as a tax write off, or having a system that encourages your clients to waste tons of money/food. I more or less point the finger at the insurance company insuring the goods that doesnt look at things on a case to case basis, and not incouraging the donation of the food.

The problem isn't actually the taxation system, both options give them a tax write-off. The problem lies with liabilities. If something went wrong with any of the food, and someone got sick (or even someone thinks they got sick) from the food, society has told them to sue, in this case, sue Wal-Mart. Even if Wally wins, the legal fees (since they won't be able to recoup much of anything from those who can't afford food) will eat up the tax write-off, and the news stories will remove any good will you may've gotten. It's too big of a risk, one I can't blame Wal-Mart for not taking.

Anyway, subject at hand. I've said before to myself that if there was a way, I'd turn in my resignation to the human race. I can't stand the way we treat each other for pretty much any petty difference. We're leeching the Earth's resources, all for ourself. And yes, everything is about us, short term, right now. I've seen theories that there will be no more oil in 50 years. Right or not, I don't know, nor am I guessing. But if true, what're we doing about it? Nothing, we'll deal with that problem when we come to it. This of course, ignores the fact that the people making these decisions will be dead, screwing over later generations.

I'm a firm believer in complete and total equality. What is this "no shirt, no shoes" policy in the US? Because women have breasts that some religions think should be covered up? Screw that shit, get rid of it. Men and women are equal, both should have full choice over what they choose to do, as long as it doesn't impede on others. Black or white skin? Gay or straight? Why do these matter? Why do people have to split themselves into so many categories, when the problems we are going to face are all of humankind's problems? We are humans. I shouldn't have to categorize myself into the category of 'white gay atheist American male.' And I could throw more words in there, too, to further split myself off from others. Individualism is all well and good, but we all need to be able to work together. As one. And not have all these petty differences.

Ugh, sorry for rambling. I just really hate all this crap we do...

seriously, im 21 years old, and im really fucking sick of some of the stupid shit we (humans) do.

racism, homophobia, sexism, hairism, all this arbitrary bs that people insult each other for, im just really fucking sick of it, why the fuck do people do this shit? seriously? do some people just not have functioning brain cells?

If you ever notice 90% of all of that is from the older generation. Our generation only learns it from the older generation. If our generation keeps an openmind and ignores the older generation's crap then we can all live happy when they are old and retired.

Just keep an openmind on everything and teach everyone you can to keep an openmind. Equality is for the greater good for humanity. Without it we will eventually kill ourselves.

And I dont know if you are religous or not but if you are make yourself an agnostic version of that religion. I'm an Catholic Agnostic. Basically while I was born in and will say that I believe in the greater being of "God" (not specifically the being of what the story book of the Bible says but of a being of good will and of high-power) I am willing to learn and get a greater understanding of how other religions work and what they believe to better objectivify what I believe in overall.

im an atheist, part of the reason I dont like religion is that people use it as an excuse for those things or worse yet promote those things because of their religion, I dont hate all relgious people (this is @ dsister), I just think that ALOT of them, in particular thoose that I have met, tend to be more bigoted and narrow minded than atheists/agnostics.

IN a thread about how mankind treat other people badly, the "egalatarians" comment: it's not US, it's THEM (older generations, or religous people).

How ironic.

its the human way. Not saying its the right way but as humans we constently try to find fault in things and others some people just take it to the extreme.

And Im sick of people like you. Common, all you do is complain, and do nothing. I admit Im often a racist, sexist homophob etc. but why do you care, or if you do why do you write about it in a forum, and not go out and do something about it?

Seriosuly, if you hate everything that is human or related to society then you are a sociopath... you are no different, just because you suddenly have a hippy outburst...

Well from what I read on the news, in your country,  people can still be homophobic without any repercussions (unlike say being racist, which draws negative social consequences). Also the existence of all those ex-gay groups obviously prove that a lot of people realy care of someone is gay.

And that's just in your country. In my country "sodomy" was illegal up until 2001, and it was only decriminalised due to pressure from the EU. I also think (I'm not 100% sure) that's it's still classified as a mental disorder over here.

What makes you think increasing the use of cognitive skills is going to result in hate going down?  You get people on the net who are very intelligent, but have the emotional development of children, and don't understand empathy, or decency.  People do things because:

* They are dire for attention.  Their lives have little meaning, so they need an audience.

* People have issues in their life unresolved, and feel airing them is the only option.

* People want to share the suffering.  If they aren't going to have a good life, they don't want you to other.  This is a form of justice in their minds.

* People be trollololing, for giggles, wanting to see you get upset at it.  It is a joke, and they get a laugh out of it.

By the way, what is hairism?
