I'm not sure this survey is valid. Google surely has not that good of a reputation, not to speak of Nestle...

Who gave you that idea? Google is basically synonymous with internet searching and provide a huge array of services aside from that. Google are huge!

Would it? Compared to all those other Japanese companies that affect so many more people in Japan, resulting in more exposure? Maybe in a "most reputable game company" survey would they make this list. But up against all these other consumer companies, Nintendo doesn't hold a candle. You're looking at this with angst because Sony is #2 because you're just thinking in terms of video games. Don't forget they make the best TVs, the best MP3 players not called the iPod, the Vaio (a laptop used by many people), camcorders, digital cameras, phones etc. And they're all great products. What does Nintendo make? The Wii and DS..... Your criteria of huge or multi-producted is your crutch for why Nintendo isn't on there, but maybe people find these other companies more reputable because they are exposed to more of their products *because* they make so many different products. |
No I am not looking at this with angst. I am trying to be realistic. To say people don't know about Nintendo would be folly. Roughly one person in four in Japan has a DS. What I said was that Nintendo was not big enough to be included because it was only a game company.
Sony -- which is an electronics giant -- was obviously included. For example, Sony was 11th in the Forbes 40 for Japan in 2006 while Nintendo was unranked. However, if you are just looking at the market value of the company, Nintendo is bigger. Sony ranked 210 in the FT Global 500 in March 2008 at $40.06B. It had fallen from 153rd three months before. Nintendo was 90th at $72.46B (down two spots from Dec. 2007).
As for reputation, I personally think Sony made better stuff years ago. I have had much more trouble with the more recent VCRs that I bought while my oldest one generally works well (unless I try to review instead of rewind, then it eats tape). For the record, I have three Sony VCRs, one Sony VCR/DVD combo, a PS2 and two PS1s. And I used to have a Walkman.
I am Mario.I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble. Wii Friend Code: 1624 6601 1126 1492 NNID: Mike_INTV |

People aren't always totally rational, either. But when explaining people's reasoning; how can the biggest choclate milk and choclate maker be a disreputable company? That's like willy wonka turning out to be a pedophile.
Just shows how perception doesn't reflect reality.
Google? REALLY?
Most reputable for what exactly? Pulling out of their propganda deal with the Chinese only after the Chinese tried to hack them?
Or was it them leverging their search engine in a battle vs Apple ona completely unrelated matter?

Quality =/= reputablity,.
For example... a reputable company might sell you a crappy TV that breaks a lot... but they didn't mean to.
Or they could just offer a worse product but you feel safer with them should you get a product with problems.
People think Samsung TV's are better (and they are) however they don't think it's that way because Sony is specifically making their computers worse.
Think of it as a list of companies you trust to not rob your wallet through immoral practices.

This isn't about size, or even which products you perfer. It's SOLEY about ethics of said companies... of which google is SORELY lacking.

I mean, really, companies like L'Oreal?? Heck, I could probably remove about a third of this list easily... |
L'Oreal has a lot more customers and brand awareness than Nintendo.........
50% of the world population is female and L'Oreal is the brand a lot of them know the best...
