Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo faces a dangerous piracy threat

My roommate bought R4 and a DS at the same time. Him being a Ninty fan I asked him how come he isn't supporting the company. His response?

"I wasn't going to buy a DS without the R4. Nintendo profits off hardware so I am actually helping them out by buying an R4 and DS instead of not buying either."
.

That's.... actually a good point in some ways, at least in his case.

legend11, tell us more about x360 piracy plz !

I imagine it works just like the orignal Xbox.  Mod it put in a bigger HD, hook it up to your computer and download the games right on your HD.

Of course my friends who actually did that used there Xbox more for watching movies then they did actually playing games on it.

Have you guys seen one of these things yet? A guy came into my Best Buy with one of those. I have never seen anything like it! He said his wii was the same. He had all kinds of games and Music on his R4 thingy. It was pretty sick!

Yeah, i've got a friend with a modded PSP.  He offered to show me how he did it if I got a PSP but eh... that kinda stuff doesn't sit right with me.

Yeah, that's why most actual studies on piracy show that piracy doesn't hurt sales.  Some people buy a console simply because it can be pirated.  Lots of people in countries and poor areas who can't afford a system and games to go with it to be a constant drain on their resources but can take a 1 time hit for just the sytem.  In these places sales increase.

In places where people do pirate just because they're cheap, it's often found that their buying habits don't change much after they start to pirate.  They still buy the big games they are interested in and only pirate the games they have some interest in.  So really if it's hurting anyone, pirating is hurting places like gamestop who sell used games and rental stores.

Here is the question: is it legal to ban the sales of M3/R4? In and of itself, it is just a card that allows users to run Hebrew applications and 'backups' of their games. The company could argue that whatever other uses people do with it is not under the responsibility.

its not hebrew aps lmfao

they are called HOMEBREW. I cant believe someone reported you on this lol. You screwed up and called them the wrong name. Its fine.

I lol'd. Hard.

ROFFLE

I don't know what's better: that he said Hebrew, or that someone actually reported him for it. Comedic gold, I tell you.

Im waiting for a response from Legend11.

*crickets*

He won't respond. All he's interested in is keeping a steady flow of annoying pain-in-the-ass threads on the front page. As soon as his current 2 threads drop out, he'll stir up some new trouble.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

it can play snes games, but not very well, framrates are choppy, sound is far from perfect etc.

nes and lower systems emulate very well though.

To return to the old topic, I dont think nintendo have much to worry about, places like china wouldnt have even looked at the DS without such a device and im sure if it makes a decent dent in the chinese market, atleast some retail games will be sold. The more machines out there, the more likely even a hardened pirate country will pick up a few games.

I do think Nintendo should shut down some of the major sites that sell them though, especially amazon marketplace.  News articals like this hiting major news sites isnt helping either.

With every flashcard for the DS (including R4) you can use some emulators, including two for the SNES: http://www.snemul.com/ds/ http://www.cs.utah.edu/~tew/snesDS/
