Forums - Sales - Has the Wii already peaked?

I think so , with PSmove and Natal comming, Nintendo is going to loose a lot of market share, Having a HD experience with motion seems like the best of both worlds. I think this is why Nintendo is so pissed off, they know it, and there not much they can do.

I don't know how many times I need to repeat this, but what the hell, what's one more time..

It's not the motion controls that are at the root of Wii's suceess. Notice that two of Wii's biggest games, NSMB Wii, and Wii Fit, don't even really use motion controls. But what do these games have in common? They both reach out and appeal to a wider gaming (and non gaming) audience with their uniqueness, accessbility and user friendly features. This is really what the Wii is about, and throwing out games like "Motion Party" and Socom 4 is simply not going to cut it for Sony.

Look at my predictions

No, I really think the Wii is going to sell at least 20m. I also agree on the assumption that Nintendo is only able to release Metroid, MH3, SMG2 and SIn and Punishment in the first half because they have something in store for the sedond half. Therefore, I am optimistic by saying 25m for the year.

edit: I forgot about Xenoblade, The Last Story, and DQX, of which we might one see for xmas. If not, we have 3 top titles for 2011.

Regarding "The novelty has worn off a bit, and the (graphically weak) hardware is showing its age (painfully so, compared to PS3/360). I think most people who ever wanted a Wii have one by now.
Additionaly I get the feeling that many Wii owners are starting to buy HD consoles because they are dissatisfied with Nintendo's software flow AND want better graphics." -       ALL these (novelty worn off, painfully weak hardware, everyone who wanted one has one, Wii owners want to move on to the real thing) are just personal feelings that I have repeatedly read from people who are not exactly in love with the Wii also in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Do people airing these opinions think that repeating them will make them come true?

All I can say is that the Wii during the first 2 months of 2010 has been supply constrained (as has been reported) so to draw conclusions from these 2 months would be false - just like it would be false to draw an opposite conclusion from December 2009 (just 2 calendar months ago.., remember?), where Wii shattered (decimated) the console sales record.

i think the ps2 is a console and i dont have any evidence to back it up but i what bmmb1 is saying is bullshit cuase i couldnt see the wii decimating ps2 sales.

I think he was referring to the worldwide weekly sales record, which the Wii broked in December 2009.

you mean monthly right cause its impossible to sell 3.8 mil units in one week. vgc is probably way off cause 3.8 mil units shipped from nintendo that says its under constraint all year long would be impossible.

did it better than ps2? any evidence of bestselling month of ps2 and wii to see that it decimated sales and decimating is atleast with a couple of 100k.

By Decimating I mean by 1 million, not a measly 100k...

Yes it's monthly (I said December), no it's not VGC numbers, it's NPD, and the Wii wasn't supply constrained in 2009.

We'll see how things look after these shortages are over. I'm inclined to say it hasn't yet, though.

well thats great for nintendo. Nintendo never sold me anything but a ds which i liked but the wii was not my taste gl for nintendo. I would say pure game companies selling most hardware is good but i dont like the way nintendo is goign this generation. I would like if someone like EA or sega do a console that hass good specs that would be an insta buy. Maybe EA losing all this moeny is for R&D. lol

I expect the wii to sell better than 2008. Why well all the wii had in 2008 was wii fit and Mario kart wii that carried the system through the year. The wii seems to have the 1st half covered. Wii sales gained momentum after wii fit and mario kart released. Which was in June. So the wii should be higher or close in the 1st half due to supply constirents. But the latter half of the year if the games are sucessful enough it'l' boast hardware

Super Mario galaxy 2,Metroid other Monster hunter 3 . Add to the games of NSMBW,WSR and Wii fit + These games should carry the momentum till September. Than Xeno gears and Last story will launch in Japan. If it does well over there. The sales should stay steady over there. Zelda wii will carry the system to 2011. While vitality sensor should be a big hit if released this year

Wii is going to be up this year over 2009 without a doubt, next few months we'll see Wii's weekly yoy lead expand, over 2008 will be harder, possible if Vitality is big and a big game is announced at E3, something that ignites sales like NSMB did last holiday

I strongly agree with the bolded.
