I don't know... I just said it's almost impossible the PS2 haven't shipped over 540k in the last quarter (aka June 30th, 2012).

What doesn't make sense is how the PS2 shipped what 600k in Q4 2011 and then "1 million" in Q1 2012 and thanks for the response to my scenario question.

PS2 shipped 600k in Q4 2011 down 50% compared to Q4 2010 (1.2m)... the 1m for Q1 2012 is down 30% from Q1 2011 (1.4m - the best quarter in 2011)... I see no problem to Q1 2012 be the best quarter in 2012.

Last year Sony shipped more in the first quarters (Q1 and Q2).

Ok so it usually is Q3 that is the largest. When do you think Sony will discontinue the PS2? And where do you think it will end? If you ask me, it looks like it has another 3 years left with a lifetime of about 163 to 165 million.

Anyway, I never expected Wii to pull off PS2 like numbers. Hell I was pleasantly surprised when it even passed NES's numbers. What I didn't expect however was for its sales to drop off so quickly and drastically. Though I guess with virtually no real third party support it does make sense in retrospect. Oh well, it'll still crack that illusive 100 million mark at least, and most likely pass the Playstation 1, which is quite an accomplishment in itself.

Actually Wii sales have been crashing for a while. It's not the Wii U which is limiting the Wii, but the lack of software support. Wii outpaced the PS2 for i think 5 years straight and now sales are crumbling, where PS2 managed to hold a slow decline from 13 million to 8 million in it's later years.

If Nintendo gets some good third party support for the Wii U, I could see Wii U topping PS2 and being the first home console to top PS2.

I read a september report and PS2 was just below 250 sales in Japan.

In America's PS2 is also basically dead, so EMEAA is supplying PS2 sales.

Edit: Earlier in the year, PS2 was still selling 1,000 units or so, but prior to 2012 it's never sold below 500 a week. PS2 is phasing out.

@pezus is talking about the last quarter we have number... Q1 FY2012... Sony shipped ~1m PS2 down from 1.4m in the same quarter from the last year.

Last confirmed shipped state from Sony is Q4 FY2011... 155.1m.

Add more 1m in for the Q1 FY2012 and you have...

July 30th, 2012: 156.1 PS2 shipped.

Waiting now the Q2 FY2012.

PS. DS and Wii is phasing out... PS2 outshipped both in the last two quarters... I will not be surprise if it did again in this quarter (last year it shipped 1.2m in Q2).

If Sony confirmed 156.1 million PS2's shipped, and you have a link you should update wikipedia.

Also I would like you to find these sources. Sony confirmed 153.6 million shipped as of November 21st 2011: Link(Read bottom) That link opens a pdf by Sony.

VGC tracked PS2 sales at about 2.25 million last year (730k Q1, 420k Q2, 405k Q3, and around 700k Q4), which was what 100% down from 2010 sales (PS2 sold 4.59 million units according to VGC in 2010).

I don't think PS2 will be outshipping anyone in the future. Last year PS2 did ship 1.2 million in Q2, but only 0.9 million in Q3 (30% as much as the year prior) and 0.6 million in Q4 (50% as much as the year prior). They shipped 4.1 million PS2s last year, and sold 2.25 million. I really doubt that that shipped any more then 2 million (If any) PS2's this year, and I doubt that PS2 is going to sell over 1 million units WW.

Last I heard PS2 shipped 154.4 million, and according to VGC and my scaling for 2012, PS2 is still trying to sell off old inventory. With sales rates crashing, 154.4 looks like a struggle as it is.

So tell me, If PS2 shipped 4.1 million and only sold 2.25 million last year, given that shipped units dropped by 33% in 2011 (And above 50% drop in the last half of 2011), which is the biggest drop yet, How is PS2 outshipping the DS? DS has already sold 1.9 million units this year, and will likely end between 2.2-2.5 million, which will be double the number of PS2's sold at least.

The fact that you put a range lol, is proof of you making that up. Why not the exact shipments? Maybe because that 800k - 1m is speculation.

Because Sony gave us 2.8m for PS3+PS2 last quarter, and based on PS3's weekly sales, 800k-1m is the most likely range for PS2 shipments and 1.8m-2m for PS3. Unless you believe PS3 was vastly undertracked at the time...

Again the fact that you gave me a range, proves you don't know the actual figures. That's what I would call speculation. Have a good day, me and ethomaz are having a good conversation.
