Forums - Gaming - Mario Galaxy Review--SPONSORED BY SONY!

As if I didn't hate Sony already, they try to kill the best feature they introduced to consoles (BC), and now this... atrocity of propaganda.  It's pointless too.  Who gets game reviews from variety?   I will enjoy laughing at their sales, which had a smaller bump than Wii and X360 this week even with their 40GB release.  So customers do care about BC?

@Legend11

Doesn't it seem a little weird that on every Wii Mario game he's reviewed he brings up the PS3 and/or the 360? I wouldn't go as far as saying the guy is on the take, but I also don't think he should be given a pulpit to spew this kind of trash either.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Cmon, guys, let's not be stupid fanboys and blame Sony for this...seriously. This is this guy's opinion and words, not Sony's.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I can't wait to see a Nintendo sponsored review of Sony's holiday lineup...

Oh wait... Nintendo is a gaming company... They're not hugry media whores... They don't pay people to review anyone else's games... Damn.

 The thing that chaps my ass the most is, he says Galaxy looks "lifeless." Okay smartass, does that argument prove true for all pre-next gen games? Yeah... Farcry, Resident Evil 4, Shadow of The Colossus, Half-Life 2, Metroid Prime, Jade Empire... They're all static and lifeless. It makes me sick to think about the weak grafixxs.

 F-tard.

Just like gametrailers made the ps3 screw attack there top video today, so everyone can see it and not purchase a ps3.

Legend needs to get a life soon, btw that review is trash.

Bashing another console cause you dont like it is very unprofessional, and of course they are not professional in any way ;)

I love having my hands separate...even if it's a "traditional" game, like Mario, it's great because I can rest my hands in whatever position I want, instead of keeping them close together with a regular gamepad.

I definitely agree.  It feels uncomfortable and strange to hold my hands right next to each other in front of me now.

 Huh?  For that situation, I also said it was Screw Attack's opinion about the PS3 sucking...what are you talking about?

I stumbled across this review of Mario Galaxy last night on Variety. It's pretty blatantly obvious that they're bashing the game because of Sony sponsorship. I don't mean in a subtle way, I mean blantant advertising while bashing Galaxy. An example of the review:

"Fans may claim that the graphics are good “for the Wii,” but that argument quickly grows tired. There’s clever art design on many of the planets Mario visits, but given the vastly superior quality of the graphics in a game like “Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction,” currently available for the PS3, “Galaxy” looks old fashioned and lifeless."

Needless to say it's a pretty funny review, so I sent it to Joystiq and Kotaku so they could enjoy the laughs, too.

So I go back to Joystiq this morning and the article is up!

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/variety-says-mario-galaxy-shows-wiis-weaknesses/

Only problem?

They linked to this version of the article:

http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117935396.html?categoryid=1023&cs=1

And I sent them this version of the article (notice "Sponsored by Sony" near the top)

http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117935396.html?categoryid=1269&cs=1

Maybe joystiq loves flamebait instead of actual comedy news?

I've looked at Ben Fritz's other reviews and they seem to point out flaws in other games as well and from the ones I've played they seem to be pretty spot on. He also seems to be a well respected journalist. So what exactly are you claiming? That he is being paid off by Sony? Do you have any proof of this or are you just basically trying to defame the guy and Variety as well? My guess for the reason why Joystiq didn't go with your claim is because they likely didn't want to be on the receiving end of a lawsuit. Somehow I doubt you would be there with proof to help defend them or to pay their legal fees.

I can't tell if this is a gimmick post/account or not.

Anyone care to elaborate/explain for me? Is Legend11 a gimmick account?

@capslock

Legend11 has been around longer than you have, actually he's probably been here longer than 98% of the users in VGChartz.
