Where is your cutoff point when it comes to handhelds, when you don't consider them to be pocketable anymore (jacket counts), thus they move into portable consoles subcategory?

For me, when they can fit either in my pocket or backpack. The latter of which without feeling any heft. The last true handhelds were the 3DS and Vita.

I still got my Steam Deck, but that thing ain't ever leaving my house lol

Would have been nice if there were also older handheld consoles in that comparison, like the older gameboy variants, Sega Game gear, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, etc. Also, where would the Wii U gamepad fit in here?

As for the question, the Switch 2 is still rather easy in my hands, and I don't have any heavier handheld consoles, so it's hard to say where my limit would be. But my rather large hands have caused an issue in the other direction, something like the Gameboy Micro and GBA SP were simply too small for me to wield anywhere near comfortably.

Basically everything in that image Vita and lower I consider pocketable. Though the sticks on the Vita make it slightly less pocket friendly.

I'd never consider using something as large as the switch for use outside on the go.

GBA and GBA SP are where I stop for portability. The DS was okay, but heavy as a mother. lol. Same for PSP.

I'll try to add those as well - I'm using size comparison window on Retro Catalog for image comparisons, but I need to add names and sizes by hand later.

But until then, in the nutshell, all those Nintendo missing handhelds are smaller than AYN Thor, Game Gear is just a tad bit longer then Switch Lite, but quite a bit bulkier, and Game Lynx is almost the width of Switch 1, but again much bulkier. WiiU is between Switch 1 and 2, again quite a bit bulkier.

Yeah, that's about my limit as well - I can pack up to Odin 3 into small satchel I'm usually carrying with me (it would barely fit), but I wouldn't consider that really pocketable.

Vita was the perfect handheld size to me. At home I like Switch 2 screen size but if I had better grips like the split pad pro on Switch 1 it would be great. I hate the default joycons. Too thin. I never take my Switch on the go tho. Vita was perfect for that.

Vita is the limit. Actually portable and fit in a pocket. Should have been able to click in the sticks though.
