Forums - Gaming - The Last of Us 2 was overshadowed by [SPOILER]

I have been playing new game+ and really enjoying the exploration and the stealth action. I remember before the game came out I thought that either Ellie or Joel would die but nobody was ready for how brutal Joel's death would be. Many people were butthurt, but what did they expect from the sequel? The adventures of Ellie and Joel on scavange runs and occasional raids on Jacktown by hunters?

Yeah, I love the game, but Joels death was not the only thing people had a problem with.

The game has a lot of issues outside of Joel's death.

I don't have any problems with it.

The only issue I had with the game is the very ending. Other than that I think it tells a better story, improves the gameplay, and looks better than the OG

The way fans reacted to Joels death its weird to me cause I thought it was the obvious direction they were gonna go, but for whatever reason some fans didnt see it coming

Its biggest problem is its extended length and poor pacing.

The game is great, but, yes, it’s too long. Pushing almost 30 hours is just too much for this type of experience..

Yeah going to have to agree with others. One of Its biggest issue was its length, took almost 3x longer to beat than the first for me on average. But the biggest issue I had was the Naruto style flashback levels that crippled the games pacing.

Ride The Chariot | ‘26 Completed

I see the length as a positive - you get more for your money. It's not a dungeon crawler JRPG where you have to grind for many hours to beat bosses.

Most people cannot digest the fact you need to play and emphatize with Abby, who killed Joel with obvious cruelty. She's physical unappealing and not exactly charismatic or agreedable, so players were outright antagonist to her

But I believe the main issue lies withing the players themselves. I can't fathom how anyone not see Joel as mercenary who not deserved what he got

Players really see him as a hero who deserved a peaceful life, but dude was a killer who did nasty things, people looking for vengeance was going to come to him eventually
