Forums - Movies & TV - Best/favourite film of 2025 (and why)

With the year drawing to a close, what's your pick for your top movie of 2025, and why?

My favorite so far would be One Battle After Another. Great movie.

Horror-wise Sinners is my favorite, but i think its mostly because of how its directed and the use of music and visual cues. I quite enjoyed Weapons, Companion and Bring her Back but i did feel all 3 were overhyped and a bit overratd. Im yet to watch Good Boy and the Long Walk. Didnt care much for FD Bloodlines.

Minus the ending, i really liked 28 years later. It wasnt what i expected, but i still feel what it was worked great. The ending (final scenes) was weird.

I liked Frankenstein, but i feel the writing is nowhere near as good as the cinematography. So it ended up being not very memorable imo. Honestly a bit of wasted potential imo, but im not too crazy over the source material either tbh

I recently watched the new Knives Out movie and Jay Kelly and even tho neither is particularly great, both are quite enjoyable and I would recommend them, they are both an easy watch imo. Adam Sandler works great in dramatic nuanced roles.

Disappointed by Phoenician Scheme. Expected more. Wes Anderson is slowly becoming a parody of himself and that doesnt work well, his style is great but he needs more focused plots imo.

Ill be watching Eternity and Bugonia this weekend, and im looking forward to Marty Supreme, the mastermind and Avatar. Theres a lot of films from this year that wont be releasing in my country until next year's award season, i really hate that.

I tried to watch One Battle After Another but I just wasn't enjoying it, I hated the characters and the dialogue/acting.

My picks would be either Frankenstein or Wake Up Dead Man, the former for its beautiful and haunting interpretation of a classic story, and the latter for its clever writing and fun characters.

I've only seen a handful, but of the few I did watch, I'd say Sinners was the best, and The Bad Guys 2 was my favorite. I don't really feel I can elaborate much on why, they were both just great movies all-round I think. TBG2 is my favorite because it's more my kind of thing, and improved on what was already a movie I loved.

Not sure how I'd rank them in order, but the movies that left the biggest impact on me and I look back on most fondly would probably be 28 Years Later, The Naked Gun, Kpop Demon Hunters, One Battle After Another, Predator: Badlands, and Rental Family.

Having only seen a relatively small number of films this year, I would go with It Was Just an Accident. It's not a full 10/10 for me, but closer than anything else.

The Long Walk is probably my favorite. Really enjoyed Nobody 2 as well.

That dracula love story.
The guy why plays dracula IS dracula now in my books he freaking nailed it.

Otherwise,minecraft we really liked it.

Probably Nosferatu. I really enjoyed the aesthetics of that movie. It kinda felt like a painting. I can't quite describe it.

I know it technically came out in Dec 24 in the US. But it started in January in germany, so it's a 25 movie for me. =D

The year isn’t over yet, and a lot of “2025” films aren’t localized until February-March in my country. So it is going to be a best of 2025 so far. I only saw 6 movies of this year by now.
The greatest impression was the norwegian movie Sentimental Value, which was an extremely touching family drama with some of the greatest acting ever. It is in the top 10 movies of the decade for me.
It Was Just an Accident was also quite fantastic and an essential viewing.
Bugonia was really good, but not among Lanthimos greatest.
One Battle after Another was enjoyable enough, but as a major PTA fan, I was a bit disappointed, was expecting it to have a bit more substance. The danish movie The Last Viking was a fun comedy, but nothing outstanding, while the documentary Mr. Nobody against Putin was quite good, a bit depressing and certainly informative.
